Hello everyone:
I was just wondering if most of you wore your shoes at school or if you did the Korean thing and bought slippers?

I was given slippers by my school.

I'd advise you NOT to wear your shoes in school. It'd be very culturally insensitive even if you were permitted to do it (which I doubt)

I had a pair of slippers from the previous FT at my school which I wore during the summer months. Talk about literally filling his empty shoes Very Happy

Now that it's getting colder I tend to keep my shoes on.

I only ever wear shoes. No one has ever come up to me and I doubt they ever will. Now I havent been here during the summer months so I'm sure I will change my stance then, but until then and for the sake of comfort and health (I have to wear orthotics) I only wear my shoes.

I was never asked to take my shoes off...it wasn't even raised as an issue. The school floors get mopped down at the end of every day, and many teachers wearing sandles walk outside and then back in, so it's not any cleaner. Also, since I've arrived I've noticed that a few of the male teachers seem to have switched back to their shoes...like my being here has set some sort of precedent that they are now taking advantage of.

I wear slippers with a strap around the ankle. When I first came here I wore the typical slippers worn by Koreans. I slipped on the staircase and smashed the tape recorder. The slippers worn by the Korean staff usually only have support at the front with no strap around the ankle. These offer very little support especially if you have a tendency to walk quickly up the stairs.

I once tought a workshop for teachers in which three teachers had their shoes stolen. So far mine haven't gotten stolen when and if they do will be the last time I wear slippers to school.

At one of my previous schools I had two sets of slippers 'borrowed' I wasn't allowed to say stolen. Indefinitely borrowed? I used the nice provided slippers then, maybe they were the principals Smile

At my current school one set of slippers have gone missing, thankfully no shoes but I have heard of Korean teachers losing brand new sneakers etc.

I wear cheap shoes I bought especially to wear indoors when it's really cold and sandals with strap on the back the rest of the time.

I was never told about the shoe thing when I came to my school, and it wasn't until the second week that I actually noticed people wearing the slippers. Most of the teachers were slippers, but I sometimes see my co-teachers wearing cute heels/boots. I've definitely seen the men wearing dress shoes with their suits more than slippers, as well. One of my co-teachers just bought a really expensive pair of boots so she wears them around the school. She confessed that she felt a little guilty about wearing them, but not guilty enough to take them off. Smile

Slippers.

At first I felt weird about it, but now it's just like every day is a slumber party!

Or you know. I got used to it. Now it's just habit.

i wear slippers at my school now, but my school last year was so dirty i usually wore my shoes inside. i bought a pair of those cheap black and white slippers that the students usually wear and i just layer my socks with them.

depending on how warm they keep my school this winter, i can see myself wearing winter boots instead (not like many people will see me doing that anyway!)
