Hey, I'm a "newbie" and am wondering about summer vacation. I signed a contract with a typical week off in summer, week off in winter. Anyone know the typical Hagwon summer vacation dates? I hear it's the last week of July?

If your boss is nice, he may let you have the week off. If not, you won't get any vacation.

It varies from hagwon to hagwon so you should be asking this question to your boss.

Hagwons don't really have 'vacation' dates. My GF had the same deal as you - one week summer, one week winter - and she just arranged it with her boss. Her CTs however, never had any time off, much like Koreans' in general really. You also need to remember that just because public schools are on their winter/summer break doesn't mean that hagwons will be as well. In fact, they probably get even busier when the kids are on PS break as the parents will want them to cram in even more studying.

Ultimately, hagwons are 24/7/365, but you're whitey, so you should be able to negotiate yourself some time off. One final word of warning though, a friend of a friend works at a hagwon and they've been told that their vacation will be taken in days rather than in a week block and, at the owners discrection. So, basically, if there's a quiet day next week, whitey gets to take one of his vacation days. This is the exception rather than the rule though.

thanks for the response.

I'm not too worried since in the contract its one week vacation when the whole school shuts down. I was just wondering if it was universal when all the schools took a break....guess not.
