i'm curious if anyone has detailed information on the jazz scene here. i go to "all that jazz" in itaewon every once in a while, and that place above tool in hongdae. usually, the groups are jam sessions by university students, and they are pretty good.

but i'm more interested in professional groups/musicians who are playing serious free jazz (mingus, coleman, coltrane, sun ra, etc).

i would be very interested to find samulnori-jazz fusion groups like this:

You would probably be interested in checking out Brad Mehldau...March 4th at Seoul Arts Center.

I've heard a place called club evans in Hongdae is good, but havn't been there myself yet.

thanks!

i've been to evans, and its ok, but the quality of the music varies a lot, so it's pretty hit or miss. it seems to be primarily a place people go on dates to listen to smooth jazz and hold hands. not my cup of tea.

i'm curious about that spot in hyewha, up the stairs. i've heard good sounds coming out, but have never been inside.

The Palm, in Hongdae.

Moonglow between Hongdae & Hapjeong--on Thursday nights the house band, whose average age is something like 70, features trumpeter Choi Sun Bae.

Pretty rad.
