The promoter of the Comedy and music night at the Bad Apple got the date wrong, an easy mistake to make - it is Tuesday January SIX. At the Bad Apple. Check this site for directions: www.daejeonweb.com/badapple

I could use this opportunity to launch another tirade against the almost complete fecklessness of the Daejeon teaching community, surely the most socially challenged group of shut-ins, hermits and computer game addicted geeks to have gathered in one place, but I am going to take the high road and appeal to whatever impoverished sense of "community" and "culture" may still linger in your collective memory.

This night is genuinely entertaining, or could be if a few more people made some effort. It is not as if you are being asked to DO ANYTHING, oh gasp no, not CONTRIBUTE to any even semi-organized event, that would be far too onerous for the video-game generation, but how about just turning up and drinking beer and looking gormless, same as always?

I have just read the absolutely pathetic and contemptible replies in the initial thread posted by Plastic B, when he first launched this event back in September. Spoken Word is now the preserve of "posers" etc is it? I suppose Shakespeare was just another loser bookworm geek eh? So the HUNDREDS of people who gather for the Busan event are all limp-wristed literary effetes?

The Daejeon "Word Up" night has seen a wide range of performance - it's not all Odes to Intimations of Mortality. There is comedy aplenty, and serious and frivolous verse, prose and story-telling.

PLEASE, please, help to spread the word about this event, and try to come yourself. Email your friends here in Daejeon, tell the other teachers at your university or hogwon about it, and let's enrich the social scene here in otherwise Dull Daejeon.
