I sure don't miss the 12-24 hour delay time.
But on the downside, I get the feeling some people don't put the thought into their posts they did on the old board. And how come there has been less discussion about specific schools?

New board is a vast improvement over the old one, but it definately needs to be broken up. Categories should be as follows: ESL Questions/Korean life/Non-ESL Discussions/Recipies/Favorite Scene from the movie "Mighty Ducks 2" |

A problem with the instant reply format. |

On the other hand, I hardly ever posted on the old board. It was confusing! -_- |

actually I almost never said anything on the old board though I had been watching it for 5 years. This new board is better. I do agree with HOTUK about the lack of well thought out posts. I am guilty too, I think, that is probably due to my teaching in an intensive semester right now. I am so exhausted I think I might collapse. |

I think it has gotten much friendlier, and funnier. There doesn't seem to be so much ranting. Maybe that because the ranters are all busy packing.......who knows |

It is definately better. I hated waiting for days to see my posts and replys.
The downside here is that you can't write so much because you start tearing through pages of topics and you can't reply directly to one post very easily. You have to use the quote option which I need to work out how to use properly.
other than that it is far better.

I am not to sure about the new site. I am new to the cafe and just posted earlier this week regarding my contract. Everyone gave me great advice but I can no longer find my post. Any ideas? MoRue |

Every reply puts the thread it's in on the top of the list. Every new thread gets put on the top of the list. As a result, the non-popular ones get pushed down to the bottom. And around here they get pushed down pretty fast.
Just go through the 13 or so pages until you find it. |

Another way to find your old posts, especially as you've only made two so far, is to click on your "profile" and then select the "show all posts by this user" feature. You'll then be able to select the thread form the list and see the follow-up posts. |

I like the emoticons. Also, I was contacted by this Circus Monkey fellow because my tone(not language) was strong. Please...a little bit of freedom, moderators...I know it's in the news constantly but let's try to get away from North Korea rather than embracing their tenets. |

the new formum is terrible. It has effectively ruined the board, and doesn't suit it's original purpose at all. Which was to have a way that teachers could share information about schools and teaching. Are you or anyone actualy surprised that the tone and content of the postings has changed? Does anyone think that having people register and go through such controlled proceedures and being modrated in such a way with controlled topics would maintain the board's purpose? That would be a faulty prediction wuldn't it? Would anyone who really was in the interests of sharing info about schools in an anonymous and safe way , and free way even think it would serve the purpose? I will never read your board again. And I want to put this thought out to all the readers out there: whose interest is it in to register the contributors? who has more power to control an internet forum? WOuld it be the companies and owners who can sue a board for libel or loss of busness? Or would it be a website creator who started by wanting to help teachers and students, and whos busness blossemed into a the world's most popular teaching site?? WHo is realy in cotrol of this? ANd why did it happen? Think about it, and meet and discuss schools elsewhere, where you can say the facts without being registered and moderated.Because this new forum is not better. |

I'm sorry you feel that way. Basically the moderaters here don't do much except to make sure the language and content is clean. We will are not here to delete posts that have negative things to say about schools, provided that they are presented in a clean manner. Just be descriptive without using any foul language and you will be safe.
Registering is a very simple and painless procedure. You are still an anonymous user, no one can see your e-mail address unless you choose that option. By registering it allows you to get e-mail notifications of replys to your message. This is a great feature for people who are not regular users of the forum. Another benefit of registering is that you can display an avatar next to your name. This makes your posts easily recognizable to regular users of the forum. I particularily enjoy this feature as it allows me to easily skip posts by users I don't like and I can skim through to read posts by people that I think are good contributers.
The old board was also moderated, however you did not see the moderators. that was why the posts took 1 day to make their way onto the site. I hope that this addresses your concerns. If you have other questions please feel free to send myself or any of the other moderaters a private message. |

Dear sp,
You would be a fool to think that the old board wasn't moderated. It was. Or do you forget one day when Dave suspended his moderators from carrying out their duties and allowed all topics to go through? Hint: it was when your IP was displayed.
As far as people getting together on this board and exchanging information, that hasn't stopped. A quick glance at some thread topics will prove this:
Purdue grad looking for work March 1st, any suggestions?
Lee's Manpower
YBM divisions: what's better?
Looks to me like some people are asking specific questions about certain companies. According to you, that shouldn't be happening with the new format.
As well, keep in mind that this new format has recently come into place. Things are still being worked out. I'd suggest that any further concerns you have regarding board policy, etc... can be done via pm.
Regards,
CM |
