they do not give you an extra 2 weeks..

you need to go to immigration and get it extended.. you need to bring your plane ticket as proof.

This is probably the most common and misunderstood concern I've heard over the years. I wish immigration would make the answer clear.

I do believe you need an extension, there is no 2 week grace period. Just to be sure, call immigration to find out.

it's not the one on your ARC - it's the one in your passport - think about it - that's your VISA - the one that will EXPIRE on a certain date - it is issued as of the day you submitted it and expires one year later (if it's an E2); when you arrive and register with immi, they issue you an id card otherwise known as an Alien Registration Card. you have 90 days now to apply for that after arriving - so it's going to be dated, by default, later than the visa and will also expire in 1 year. Therefore, it's going to expire AFTER your visa.

Look at your contract if you don't know the exact date your one year is up and go by that as to when you need your visa to last. This is why you take it with you to immi if you do need an extension. They look at that and say, ok, your visa will expire on x date and your contract doesn't expire until y date so we will extend you until y date. pay the clerk and goodbye.

got that? Cool

I would go by what your ARC says. Mine have always stated the date that the ARC was issued, but also clearly states the ending date of your sojourn (1 year from initial entry). This is the absolute last date you are permitted to remain in country without obtaining an extension.
