|
|
I've searched through this forum a dozen times but the search engine really sucks. I just moved to Gangseo-gu (specifically Hwagok), and it looks pretty barren. Does anyone know anything to do? And I mean, anything. I've yet to find a cinema, for example. An English speaking bar. A park that is not on top of a mountain.
Failing that, would anyone else who lives in the area like to hang? I'm kinda sick of going all the way back to my old city just to hang out with crackers every weekend.
Also, failing all those other things, does anyone know of a bar that plays live rock music or might be interesting in allowing live rock music?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. |

Hey,
I just moved to the Balsan station area about two months ago (that's about two stops away from Hwagok) and there's not much to do here. The closest cinema I have found is at Gimpo Airport.
PM me if you find something interesting.
I normally resort to visiting museums, but it takes FOREVER to get anywhere.

Strangely enough there is a bar owned and operated by a foreigner right next to the hwagok subway station. Even though there are not tons of foreigners that go there. Almost everyone there speaks English and everyone there is friendly. On the weekends they do have a loyal foreign crowd. I would highly recommend checking it out. You can get there by walking out of subway exit seven and walking straight until you see E-Mart. Before you get to E-Mart cross the street and the bar is called Madigans Irish Pub. Ithas a big green sign you cant miss it. I am a regular there so I hope to see you there. |

Until recently I lived near Sinjeong, not too far from there. Before I left I read about a big sports complex with badminton courts etc. I thinkk it was near Magok maybe, the subway station that no trains stop at strangely.
Also, there is stuff to do around Mokdong and Omokgyo, but it's still a bit boring, that's why I left. |

You will find a cinema in the upstairs area of Sky City Mall at Kimpo Airport. The mall also serves as an international terminal to Japan and China.
There is an Outback Steak House near Balsan station.
There is a Thai restraunt accross the street from the outback. Pricey but authentic Thai food.
There is a TGI Fridays and a Home Plus around the giant P turn intersection near the Ganseo Gu Office.
Along the major street between the giant P turn intersection and Balsan station there is the 88 Gymnasium. It was built for the Olympics in 88 and has a lot of sports facilities.
I hope this helps. |

I live in Bangwha and can assure you that Gangseo-gu is not popping for any type of nightlife. I go shopping at Hyundai Department Store in Omokyo, eat a lot of meals in Balsan, see movies at CGV Gimpo or Omokyo but there's not much to do at night. I usually make the trek to Hongdae, Sinchon, Itaewon, or Jongro a few times per week.
I would be down to try out that bar in Hwagok though. I teach a class in Hwagok three days a week and have been looking for a foreigner spot near there. |

Wow, you guys are beautiful. I almost expected the response "Get out! Get out while you still can!!!"
I'll definitely check out that Irish pub.
Thanks. |

I didn't know the pub existed either. I think I will check it out too.
Are they open late? |
