|

Democratic sources tell CNN that President-elect Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton had a "serious discussion" Thursday to gauge Clinton's interest in the post of secretary of state, if she were offered it.
Clinton's response is unknown, although multiple sources agree that she was left with the impression that if she were interested in the post, it would be hers... |

If this happens, it will mean no white male has occupied this cabinet post since B. Clinton's first term, since 1996 -- potentially extending into 2012. That would make the score, two white females, one black female, and one black male. In other words, so-called minorities will have dominated the American govt's to foreign-affairs post for sixteen years. |

Hillary is a horrible choice. She's a highly polarizing figure that has way too much political baggage to represent us to the world as Secretary of State.
Obama needs to show better judgement with these cabinet picks. |

Indeed. The man is already trying to endear himself cross-spectrum for 2012. |

| I think that Richardson would be a much better choice (and hopefully he'll get it ...) |

My understanding is that it is a toss-up between Richardson and Clinton.
I also read elsewhere that giving Clinton a position somewhere in the cabinet, will insure that she won't be running against him in 2012.
There has also been talks with McCain to see if there is a place for him.
Apparently, Obama has been studying Abraham Lincoln, and Lincoln was famous for taking the people he was running against and putting them into positions of power. |

I agree with CC and RTeacher, Richardson would be a better choice. One of the reasons I'd like to see Obama not pick either Clinton or Kerry is they are sitting US Senators. With the election of Obama and Biden, that's two more US Senators who will be replaced (granted both by D's). There is also quite are quite a few new incoming senators. The high turnover worries me.

He has been reading Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals. The term "team of rivals" has become kind of a media obsession lately. |

No.
I like that she pisses the liberals off.
Good move, Obama. |

They're just playing with appearances here.
Giving Hilary the opportunity to refuse the post.
Didn't we see some of this with Ford in Reagans first term? |

And I do not understand B. Obama's supporters' rigid ideological-purity. Democrats who despise the Clintons. Go figure.
Our gubernator likes her...
