|
|
So, last night I received a notification that there was a new update for Vista. I ran it and in doing so, my PC needed to re-boot. So, it re-boots, but once it has I notice a red 'x' over my speaker icon in the bottom left hand tray of my desktop. I hover over the icon and a window appears which says 'No Audio Output Device is Installed'. I then go to control panel and check the adjust sound option, but when I click the window, the same message appears.
Not knowing what's happened, I decide to roll-back using system restore, but there is no restore point other than the one when I installed the Vista expansion pack. I run restore anyway thinking it may sort itself out. Restore appears to be running, but after 10-minutes or so, the laptop shuts down, reboots and after I've logged in, it says restore was unable to run properly or words to that effect. Everything is working fine, but I still have no sound.
Any ideas? |

Open up ur device manager and scan for hardware changes in the sound, video and game controller. If that doesn't tell u anything or locate the old driver then put ur os disk in and search, locate and add the driver from there. If u have a sound card then go to their website and download the driver from there. If none of the above works then you'll have to check for the driver on your motherboard's website, download and install it. personally, I keep all of my current drivers in a file on one of my backup disks so they're handy if needed and all the driver wizard has to do is to search and find it. |

The issue is documented on the Microsoft website. I read it today. It said that you simply need to install a new, updated driver. |

Still no joy, or sound.
So, I've managed to update my sound device driver (conexant) after an hour of trying. In system information it says that the 'status' is okay so I've no idea why it's still not working. The speaker icon in the tray that I said had a red 'x' over it has now completely disappeared.
My only other concern is that I had the motherboard replaced about a month ago and so there maybe some sort of conflict going on, but it was working fine until yesterday.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. |

^Thanks for that.
I've made some progress; I now have sound, but not through any online sources. Just tried to play a youtube clip and a bbc news clip, but no sound. any ideas why that might be?
Thanks. |
