Once you are in the Philippines, you can bring it to a local office and get it extended. Boracay has one for example, as does Davao, Cebu, and Manila. Probably other places, but those four for sure.

If I remember right, it takes about a day. Drop it off in the morning, and pick it up at night.

I've never done it beforehand, but the Philippines Embassy is in Itaewon, I believe...I think its a two-month visa you can get before arrival.

The fee is about P2000 or so. That's a pretty penny for an extra 5 days.

Do NOT wear shorts to the Philippine immigtation offices.

All government offices here in Davao and probably the rest of the philippines are going to be closed Dec 24 - Jan 1. Not sure if that includes immigration. If your visa expires within that period go to immigration office beforehand to get it renewed.
