I'm going to post a couple of my class activities up here for my winter camp. I'd appreciate it if people would do the same. I actually used these for my SUMMER camp, and I'd like to have a few different activities this time.

Design your own Comic Book Super Hero!

*Supplies: Paper, Pencils, Color Pencils, Erasers, Examples,

*Objectives: Vocabulary Expansion, Connecting phrases, Self Expression

* Time: This project usually takes 2 class periods of 45 minutes, one for introduction, brainstorming and preliminary writing, and the second for detailed writing and designs/art.

First Class:

Ask the students Who are your favorite Super Heros?
Suggest a few names so the students understand what you mean
Super Man, Batman, Spider Man, Wonder Woman, Iron Man,

Brain storm wide-range of abilities together
What can they DO? Write the powers and abilities on the board, using the correct verbs and terms. The students will use these as reference for the next section.

- turn invisible
- talk to animals
- super speed
- bullet proof
- super strength
- immortal
- walk through walls
- shoot lasers
- shape change
- shoot webs
- stop time
- fly

Explain that now you will be doing a writing exercise, and that next class they will have a chance to draw. (Hand out the worksheet)

A. If you could make your OWN super hero, (NOT Superman, Spiderman or Wonder Woman), and you could have them do what EVER you wanted, what would you think would be most useful?

B. Follow the work sheet Introduce each section and explain it. (You will need to remind them that its their OWN super hero, not their favorite super hero)

i.Man/Woman
ii.Person/Animal/Alien/Robot
iii.The five powers
iv.Who does the hero want to HELP?
v.Who does the hero fight AGAINST?
vi.What kind of symbol/sign would your hero have?
vii.What is your heros name?
viii.Re-write the sentences at the bottom of the paper in an essay format

C. Collect the worksheets for next class

Second Class:

1. Hand out their worksheets from last class, finish if necessary. Hand out the paper, half blank, half lined

2. Ask the students to re-write their essay from the worksheet on to the half-lined paper. Write carefully!

3. AFTER the writing is completed, use a pencil and draw EITHER the super hero, OR the symbol/sign the hero uses in the blank area.

4. After the students have completed the drawing, give them colored pencils to finish their drawings

I really like your idea of Word Art and I'm trying to figure out how I would adjust this to my elementary school classes. I don't really understand number 8 and 9 of your directions. Can you post a picture of what the finished product looks like? Or maybe explain it with a little more detail. Thanks for posting your ideas!
