Can anyone point to where I could start a beginners Korean language class? I want to join it right from the beginning not when everyone else has already been at the class for several weeks.

Well if you have the time, here are the best two intensive cources:

Seoul National University:
http://lei.snu.ac.kr/english/pages/SD00009_00.jsp

Sogang University:
http://klec.sogang.ac.kr/

Sogang emphasizes speaking. I think the classes at both places are from 9am - 1pm, but both offer night classes.

There's also free classes downtown:

Let me know if you need more info.

This is a class that meets once a week on Saturdays from 4-5:30. I know it's not enough time, but it might hold you over till you find a real class. Does anyone know of any school that has morning classes that end by 12? or evening classes that start after 9?? My work schedule makes it just about impossible to take a university class...

smileyjkl, I studied at Hanyang University and Korea University and both had their classes until 1 p.m. Korea U. was 5 days a week while Hanyang was 4 (no classes on Wednesdays, but optional cultural activities).

At any rate, at both universities the last hour was a reading class, so even if you didn't stay for the last hour it wouldn't be dramatic.

Check out universities around your area and you might find what you're looking for. I'd ask a Korean to get information for you or you simply should go to a university yourself because if you try to get information through web sites you'll most likely get outdate information.

You can contact my wife. She teaches Korean privately. She can also teach Japanese if anyone is interested.

Still, I'd go straight to university to make sure that you get the correct information; especially, since you said you are nearby, it shouldn't be a problem for you.

If you go by subway, take exit #2 (I think!). As soon as you're outside, go up the hill to your right and walk about less than 2 minutes. You'll see the building on your right. I think the office was on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Anyway, once you are there it won't be hard to find.

I took the free class at Korean Foundation cultural centre(KFCC) for a few months and found it very useful.
The beginners classes are on Mondays if it hasn't changed. Check out the website. Classes start at the beginning of the month and u have to register towards the end of the previous month.
