So, me and my fiance have received 3 offers and I am trying to make up my mind in which ones. Any input?
Anseong:
I'll be working about 30 min from anseong city (juksan), he'll be working in Bongnam dong in Anseong. He's in middle and I'm in elem.
Pay - 2.2 mil (me - 2.1 + 100k rural pay), and 2.1 mil (him).
If we live in the outskirts we get 400k/month housing allowance pay. So total will be 4.7mil/month for the both of us.
Hours: 8:30-4:30
Overtime- 30k/won him, 20k/won me.
Teaching hours- 20-22/week him, 22/week me.
Vacation - 20 work days him, 25 work days him.
Severance pay equivalent to one month's salary upon completion of 1 year contract
or Incheon:
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00
Classroom Hours: 22 teaching hours per week, overtime a possibility
Vacation: 16 work days + national holidays and additional 2 weeks home
leave if you stay for a second year
Salary: 2,000,000 Korean won per month
Settlement Allowance: 300,000 Won
Severance Bonus: 1 month salary
School Type: Elementary, Middle and High School
Housing: non-shared housing supplied, schools pay rent, teachers cover util.
Entrance and Exit Allowance: An allowance of 1,300,000 Korean Won
will be given upon arrival in Korea and at the end of the contract in
order to pay for the flight.
Start dates: April 1st, 2009
Contract Length: 1 year with option to renew
So how is living in Incheon vs Anseong? How long will it take to get to Seoul? How are the cities themselves? Any other inputs?
or EPIK Jeollabuk:
Of which we don't know where we will be, just in that province. And I'm a level 2 and he's a level 2+.
Or should I wait for better offers? Ive applied with EPIG but I'm not sure when they will actually start interviewing people. Any opinions? |

I'd go with Incheon. It's a bigger city, closer to Seoul (but not expensive, like seoul), and the public transportation is better than Anseong.
Keep in mind that Incheon is very large and you and your fiance' could end up working at schools that are very far apart.
Also, you may end up in some rural area of incheon that is far from any subway line...
So, it's kind of a gamble, unless you know exactly where you'd be in incheon.... |

I'd say go with whoever can promise you that you will be no more than 45 min apart by public transportation (not by car) and will allow you to live in the middle (ie you aren't stuck with seperate apartments near your school. What is part of a "city" is often a lot bigger than you might think and many schools are not near easy public transportation. |

All jobs sound as if they are under the EPIK umbrella anyway. Check this with the recruiter
So all you can do is put down a priority for the location you want to be in. Cities such as Incheon do not have any vacancies out of EPIK's main intake right now.
Look more at the salary range for EPIK for big cities such as Incheon and provinces to help with your choice and rememebr even if you select Incheon you may not end up there! |

pass on all three
there are simply TOO MANY jobs not to get exactly what you want: want to work in the same school? within WALKING distance of each other? within a 10-minute bus ride? what?
decide exactly what is most important and you'll get that (thru that recruiter or another)
seriously |
