|
|
Former Democratic presidential contender, Dennis Kucinich, has called for the impeachment of George W Bush claiming that the president set out to deceive the nation, and violated his oath of office with the Iraq war.
The Ohio representative yesterday introduced 35 articles of impeachment against Bush on the floor of the US House of Representatives.
Kucinich unveiled a list of alleged illegal and improper acts by Bush, including war crimes.
He accused Bush executing a "calculated and wide-ranging strategy" to deceive citizens and Congress into believing that Iraq posed an imminent threat to the United States.

Kucinich is just engaging in self-abuse for his own pleasure. Bush will be out of office in 6 months. Even if it wanted to impeach him, it would be extraordinarily difficult for the House to get it done in that amount of time. That's not to mention the Senate trial. |

From wikipedia...
It is possible to impeach someone even after the accused has vacated their office in order to disqualify the person from future office or from certain emoluments of their prior office (such as a pension).
How about that? If it takes longer than 6 months a Democrat majority could then impeach and convict ex-President Bush??

I don't expect Democrats to control 2/3's of the Senate after this Fall's election, which is what you need for conviction.
As it is right now, Republicans are rather discouraged about their chances in the election. I hope thatt discouragement continues and intensifies as the summer goes by. I see no benefit to stirring up the 30% who still approve of Bush. That would be self-defeating for the Democrats. |

Agreed. I wouldn't mind seeing an impeachment, but trying to start one now would make the Dems look petty and stir up boatloads of anti-Democrat rhetoric. It would motivate the Republicans more than anything. |

So Clinton got impeached for lying about a blow job, but Bush getting impeached for war crimes is petty? I believe we've stepped through the looking glass.
It is important that the impeachment proceed now to try to stave off the planned war against Iran. While there is some opposition in the current administration, there may not be enough to stop it before the election.
Regardless of that, justice requires that Bush and Cheney be impeached now. |

I believe you've got your petty shoe on the wrong foot. Which party controlled both houses of Congress during the Clinton impeachment?
Just saying that Bush plans to attack Iran before the November election is not enough to make it true. |

Did you miss the part I said about regardless of what happens next in Iran, they should be impeached now? |

Actually, I ignored it.
So you are saying that 5 months before the election we remove the president and vice president and install Speaker of the House Pelosi as president. Is that right? |

That sounds wonderful, and I don't like Pelosi. It's like having a rat, a snake or a weasel. Weasels are cuter. |

I'm sure Nancy will be happy to hear that you think she's cute. You are not the first to comment on the attractions of older women:
From 'Old Mistresses Apologue' (June 25, 1745)
4. ...if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclin'd to excuse an old Woman who would kindly take care of a young Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.
5. Because in every Animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: The Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. And as in the dark all Cats are gray, the Pleasure of corporal Enjoyment with an old Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior, every Knack being by Practice cpapable of Improvement.
6. Because the Sin is less. The debauching a Virgin may be her Ruin, and make her for Life unhappy.
7. Becasue the Compunction is less. The having made a young Girl miserable may give you frequent bitter Reflections; none of which can attend the making an old Woman happy.
8thly and Lastly They are so grateful!!

Why not? It is only for five months as you say, and justice will have been served (except, of course, for the impeachment of Pelosi, but that is way farther down on the list of priorities). |

Impeachment is the over-turning of a democratic election...the will of the people. It should not be done for light and frivolous reasons. We have regularly scheduled elections and term limits for presidents. I don't believe an impeachment should even be tried unless there is a reasonable chance of removal from office.
We've had three serious impeachment attempts in our history and only one of them was legitimate (Nixon's). The other two were purely politically motivated and were wrong from the start. Impeachments damage the social and political fabric of the nation and should not be done except in extreme cases.
Your energy would be better spent in working for a better person to take over the presidency. |
