Any jobs in the gaming industry? Not as a game developer or sales or anything like that, but as a player. I've heard Korean pro gamers make mega bucks and they are treated like stars and it's a big thing there.
However, I am no gamer and not cut out for competitive stuff like that. I'm looking for something more low-key which would provide a consistent income. How about online RPGs? Many gamer sell in-game currency for real life dollars, would there be that kind of market here? Any ideas? Would I be able to pay rent and expenses doing something like this? |

I'd love to see a western gamer try to actually compete against a Chinese gold farmer. |

| Look into being a game tester. Not sure if it would be possible to pick up a job here doing that, but it can be a lot of fun (and a lot of continuous playing of the same game over and over and over....) |

in your case, no.
But do look into those MMOs if you want to "play" and gain some real cash, even though you probably could get more money by teaching more classes.
game testers are also an option, just pray you don't have to test some horrible creation like Barbie's Magical Shopping Experience. |

Find a gaming company and inquire from them. NCSoft I believe is the big boy here, so see what they have to say. |

| No, you don't want to be a game tester. My friend did it for Virgin and he told me what that entails. It will suck any possible enjoyment of video games out of your life. And the pay is low because there are guys willing to bug test crapware. |

A lot of beta testers work for free. I'm in the software biz, and my testers work for free. Free labor, it's great!
This is a fairly common practice (even with companies like Microsoft).
I agree with the statement that beta-testing will ruin your enjoyment of the game. There is nothing more I hate than testing... after a while you get to the point where it becomes tortuous to load the software because you get so sick of it... |

I got my start at Maxis Software as a game tester. This isn't beta testing; this is alpha testing (before the game goes to the "free" testers). And working on Sim City got me into production, and that then led to actual work at both Lucas Arts and then EA when Maxis was bought by them.
Testing isn't always a bad situation, but some companies are horrible to work for. That's the real difference.
I wouldn't rule it out, if you haven't even checked it out yet. A lot of the production crews of game companies got their start in testing. The good ones rise fast; the bad ones complain and find work in retail. |

Play Starcraft until you can beat Korean players on Battle.net. I'm talking like you beat them 95% of the time.
Then come to Korea and you MAY make it as a competitive gamer. |

This sorta reminds me of the bag hustler from College....who would go around playing bag at various frat houses....at the time I met him he was B****** about how people never followed the official regulations set by the international bags committee.
