|
|
My imac has 1 GB of RAM but has room for another 1GB. I want to upgrade it.
1. I've heard that it is better to replace both sticks at the same time (as opposed to just buying one new 1GB stick. Is this really necessary?
2. I've heard that some types of RAM work better with Macs than other types. Can anyone recommend a good brand/type/model to buy?
3. Can anyone recommend a good online retailer to order it from?
Thanks!!!! |

Here's what you need to know:
1. Don't worry about buying two sticks. There CAN BE a small performance increase with a matched pair, but it's probably negligible. I suggest you dig around on Google if you're concerned and want specifics, or you plan on running intensive video editing apps and the like. Otherwise, don't waste the money.
2. This is, largely, a myth. These days, Apple use industry spec ram. There isn't anything special about it. DON'T buy the cheapest thing you can find, though. Get something with a reasonable name and warranty. You're less likely to have issues. I picked up another 2GB stick from Samsung about 6 months ago for my iMac, and it works perfectly.
3. That really depends on how good your Korean is. You can walk into pretty much any computer shop and pick it up for the same price you'll find on Danawa. Ram doesn't carry much of a markup. Do you research online, buy it in store.
I'm sure you know this, but make sure you know EXACTLY what you need. Different iMacs have, obviously, different ram. If you haven't done so, I suggest you check your model's specs before getting ahead of yourself.
Hope that helps! |

The real question is which iMac you have.
You need to know if it's DDR2 or what. There are also different speeds. Click at the top-left of your screen and choose About This Mac. It will show you which kind of memory you have. Click More information or whatever and look for the memory part in the side bar. This will tell you the speed of your memory. Mine for example is 667MHz.
I recently upgraded my MacBook to 4GB (bought 2x2GB). It was at TechnoMart, Samsung RAM, and cost me about 60,000. |

Hey guys,
Thanks for the responses. Right now my computer has 1 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM. Based on what you've said, it seems pretty simple...just buy one more stick of 1 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM and pop it in.
Thanks again for the replies!!! |
