Question regarding monitor problems - extreme flicker

Hey - quick couple of questions for any of you techy types who happen to feel like helping out a guy in distress. Smile

My HP LCD monitor has begun experiencing intermittant but increasingly frequent extreme flicker - much too rapid and constant to work through when it happens (not to mention giving me the mother of all headaches.) I have no idea what causes it - messing with the settings on the monitor menu seems to help for a few minutes, but it comes back each time worse than before. I've turned off and disconnected the computer, leaving the monitor on, and it retains the flicker, so I have to guess that it's a problem with the monitor itself, rather than the video card.

So my questions would be these...
1) Am I right in assuming the problem is with the monitor and not the actual computer?
2) Any good ideas on whether this is fixable / if so, how?
3) If I need to buy a replacement, should I just pick up one at Emart, or is it worth trekking all the way into Yongsan? ( I'm about two hours away by subway.)

Thanks very sincerely in advance for any help.
JYN

Hey...

Start with basics... Try change the RGB cable. check the powersupply.

How old is it? Have you tried it on another computer just to make sure. I say that because it could also be your VGA card... (shot in the dark but you never know)

But... considering the info provided it is most likely the monitor itself. In that case happy hunting for a new one. Oh... and dont repair it. Just buy a new one.

And yes go to Yongsan... they rip you off in E-Mart etc. not to mention you will have more variety to choose from.

Sorry.. I know this does not help much.. but in cases like these its trial and error...

Cheers,
G
