| I'm leaving Korea at the end of February. Want to go somewhere where I can live comfortably and quietly and do some website development work for six months or so. I don't have a lot of cash - hoping to make US$4000 last for six months. Where would you go? |

Well.....
My favorite place is Nepal - Unparalled mountain scenery, fantastic people/culture, super cheap, easy to be there, best place to consume a certain plant product, the foods not that good though. It can be a little expensive to get there - but, considering your budget, the only place you can fly to for less is SE asia. I don't know if you mean local website work - I highly doubt your going to find that in Nepal. If you need electricity (computer) that limits you to the two major cities in Nepal. In terms of Visas, I don't think there are many places you can stay for 6 months. Nepal is 5 months out of 12. India would allow for 6 months - and that might be a better place to find work. |

| Thanks, Santafly. To be clear, I do mean my own websites, no need to find work. The $4000 figure is with airfare already subtracted. So I'm looking to live for around $600/month. |

My list in order of preference would be:
1. Esfahan, Iran (or anywhere in Iran really).
2. Mombassa Beach, Kenya.
3. Damascus, Syria.
4. Madagascar.
5. Cairo / Luxor / Sharm El Sheikh.
6. Manchu Pichu, Peru.
7. Mauritius.
8. Nepal.
9. Fiji / Cook Islands / Vanuatu.
10. One of the central Siberian cities, perhaps Novosibirsk or Yakutsk.
11. Port Blair / (Indian) Andaman Islands.
12. Cape Town, South Africa.
13. Costa Rica. |

| India gives 6 month visas and 4000 bucks would be good enough to live like a king. |

Where to live cheaply and do website development? ... A small coastal town in Korea.
The view is good, the rents cheap and the Internet assured, fast and reliable.
Seriously, if you need high-speed Internet and cheap rent stay here but get far away from the big cities. Coastal Gangwondo or Jeollanamdo or Geoje.
Very easy to live on $600 a month if your MAIN FOCUS is as you say WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT. Few distractions. |

Agreed. Korea is the most wired country in the world, according to claims.
Don't know how much internet access you'd actually need, but I think you'd be fine staying here. Korea now has a three-month tourist visa available to some.
Some of the countries mentioned above would be hard pressed to have an internet cafe or even internet service. If one country mentioned does just happen to have widespread service, the service would be heavily censored. |

I think it's fabulous that some people really like Korea and would be happy to stay here as tourists, and by all means, those people should stay. It would probably be better for all if they were the only foreigners working here. But I've lived in a small coastal town in Gangwon-do. I've seen Korea, I've been here for a while, and there's no way I'm staying here after I'm done with my job.
After a little research, I'm leaning toward the hills of India... |

| In the Philippines, I rented a 4 bedroom concrete house for $100 a month. You can eat for 50 cents up to $2 per meal ($150 a month). Beer is 50 cents a bottle. You will probably want internet at home. That will cost $10 for the WiFi card and then $10 a month for the service. |

| Ulan Bator in Mongolia, (might still be very cold in February) or Thailand, if you prefer heat (with air con). |

Bombay Belly. Yummm.
Just take your malaria shots before leaving. And be sure to carry a bagful of hand sanitizer, another of toilet paper, and still another of medications.
I'd do southern Thailand or the Philippines if I were taking an extended break. |

You know I have often thought of doing that. The best place is the Philippines. For example, you can get a furnished 2 apartment with all amenities and a swimming pool and jacuzzi in Valencia for $220/month. You can't go wrong.
Taka a look here
http://www.islandsproperties.com/index.htm
For $600/month you could pay rent $250/mo., pay a maid/cook to come in 3 times a day to cook your meals $50/mo., food and entertainment expenses including beer $200 and you would still have $100 left over. |

Bali is wonderful - there isn't enough to do there for 6 months but there is the whole rest of Indonesia for travel - I think there are also flights to OZ
I found the AirAsia website a couple weeks ago - they have ridiculously cheap flights all over SE asia, check it out....
I think India would be sweet - thats where I would be headed soon if my hagwon weren't screwing me out of 7million. |
