I was in the same situation as you with my V43 about a year ago.
I gave up trying to fix it (by web updates) myself so went to an i-Station A/S center who sorted it out and gave me all the recent updates.
Did you ever install the Qtopia OS? That's the optimum software for the V43 at the moment (and probably forever....V43 is an old model which won't be supported for much longer).
The upgrade from the original V43 OS to Qtopia was cheap. I think 15,000. They updated my BIOS and firmware (same thing?) for free. They also updated my Navi files for free. I can't be sure if the A/S center you go to will be as generous. They kind of judge what they will charge you for on the spot.
One crappy thing about updating to Qtopia is that you will lose the free kor-eng-kor dictionary which came with the original OS. To install the new dictionary on Qtopia they asked for 150,000. Guess what, I declined.
Be wary in the A/S center. After my updates went wrong 18 months ago I brought it to them and they told me that the whole thing was shot. Motherboard and hard drive. Basically the whole guts of the thing. To replace the above cost me 260,000. Almost the price of a new V43. After weighing up the options I decided to let them do it as I really needed the GPS function of the thing, so fixing it was cheaper than buying a new GPS. But I never really believed they had to replace the whole guts of the thing........who knows......
There's an A/S center in Gangnam....
