hey everybody. so i was very excited to have a gas oven in korea finally...then the gas guy came over today to hook it up and said it wasn't really possible because of where the gas pipe is (unless i want to pay 700,000won for construction). does anyone have any suggestions on how i can resolve this issue and have my lovely oven hooked up (with out paying a ton of money)? please help!

Wow. Cant you just place it where the old stove was/is? We did this recently in our apt, removing the kitchen bench/module and putting the stove right in. The gas plummer replaces some gas line and about 20k later a whole new menu was possible. Good luck, it makes all the difference.

Why don't you just get a length hose (and clamps) to run from the oven to the gas outlet?

What am I missing? It should be 'a piece of cake'.

Yea, if you already had a gas range or if there is a gas line running into your apartment, then you're set to hook up a rubber hose to the oven. When I got my oven, the gas guy just hooked up the rubber hose to my stove, but there was enough extra hose to run. Even if the hose wasn't present, I'm sure it would not had cost a fortune to hook a longer rubber hose from the metal gas tap, usually near your sink. An orange rubber like hose can be ran from one side of the room where the tap is to the other as needed.

If there's no gas tap running into your apartment where there never was a gas burner range, then a new metal gas tap has to be installed to use the gas oven. Some apartments don't have gas so this is a possibility, but normally a landlord would have had this installed or otherwise you would not rent this apartment if you want gas. I was shown several gasless apartments and turned them down as I had to be able to cook. These apartments usually don't have a water tap for washing machine or a space to put them as they're intended for soldiers and other young guys to sleep in who go to their parents house for laundry and food.

yeah, i thought it would be simple too which is why i bought the oven in the first place. we have an 'in counter' gas range already. the oven is maybe five feet away from it. when the gas guy came over today he just took a quick look at it, said 'andeyo' or whatever, called my 'korean contact' and they guy said it couldnt be done without construction. was he just being a knob?

maybe there's a limit on the amount of rubber hose allowed?

Meaning he would have to plumb some more steel gas pipe in, which would cost 700,000? still seems like a lot though.

Try another plumber. Or use bottled gas. Those bottled gas delivery guys are quick and convenient.
