Last time I was in korea, I could get an hour for W500. The place I'm at now is only giving me 40 minutes for W1000...

Are they just ripping me off, or has the price all over korea gone up?

I haven't been in one in a couple of months, but the ones around my house were 1000 won for an hour (and they'd give you a comp iced coffee or something. Very nice.

was 1000 won/hr in 2002, is 1000 won/hr in 2008

at 80-90% of PC rooms I visit while travelling this country

a bit cheaper still in smaller towns (700 w/hr) and more in parts of the big cities (1500 w/hr)

Yep generally 1000/hr the most I've seen is 1,200/hr. Got to be the cheapest entertainment around. Very Happy

Depends on the neighbourhood. And of course the quality of the PCs. If they have the superbadass gaming machines, I'm sure they'll charge more to cover their overhead.

I live in Gangnam and I'd be hard pressed to find one going for under 1500won/hr. coex is something like 2000won/hr

used to be 1000-1200won/hr a few years back, though.

So it depends mostly on where you are

I've seen a couple PC bags for 2000w an hour. It was nice though. Had big 24" screens and comfortable chairs. Separated smoking/nonsmoking.

The usual rate is 1000w an hour.

I haven't been in any of the "Adult PC Rooms" yet. Anyone care to share their experience?

My local one charges 1,200 and quite often it's quiet in there.

It gets me wondering how on earth these businesses work.
I mean for crying out loud all that computer gear has got to be expensive and then there is an internet provider.

The PC room is always manned by someone.
How much do they pay these people in there? 5 Bucks an hour?

A business like that would surely be bound to fail in the west. What is the going rate in your home country?

How do places like that stay open?

I'm sure there's quite an initial investment for a PC room but I think the numbers are there. The one near my home charges 1,200 won per hour and is staffed by one person. The owner works a lot of the time. The staff probably gets paid minimum wage. It's a pretty easy job and they just seem to play games themselves for the most part.

The one near my house has anywhere from 5 to 30 people at any one moment but let's say it averages 10 people. 10 * 1200 * 24 hours = 288,000 won. Multiply that by 30 days and you get almost 9 million won per month. Then there are food and beverages.

There was a thread on this a year or so ago. "Korean only" appeared to be a theme then too. I dont think I would like to be sitting in a chair or using a mouse in an adult pc room though Shocked

I've not been to any of them but I've heard they have lots of one-person rooms (3 walls and a door, a desk, a chair, a desktop) where you can do your dirty deeds in a semi-public place. Some even have phones to the side for phone sex

Working in a PC bang would be the ultimate college job. (For slackers like me anyway!)

I've never been to a PC bang that wasn't 1000/hour. Been to some that would let you take a half hour for 500.
