... where would you go? what would you do?
We have 5 weeks in SE Asia and will be flying in and out of Singapore. It will be my first trip SEA. The only thing that seems to be set in stone so far is Angor Wat. We want to end the trip with at least a week of beach time for relaxing, snorkeling, and maybe scuba. For the first part of the trip we want to "see the sights", but without being too frantic - I don't want to be rushing all over the place.
Its been really hard to narrow down the list - theres so many things to do... |

| Loas is a wonderful country especially for the "special" pizza, river tubing and night market food. Also Loas beer is to die for. Don't miss it. |

do a Mekong boat trip, definitely. Vietnam and/or Cambodia, maybe Laos too I think (haven't been there yet).
Lao Cai in northern Vietnam well worth it - the area is definitely changing all the time and always a lot of trekkers up around the Sapa region.
Siem Reap is good, enjoy it there, the town is pleasant enough as well. |

If you don't want to run around too much, I recommend Sihanoukville on the Cambodian coast...Enough 'tourist amenities' (good food, cheap booze, bookstores, cafes, etc) but w/out the throngs you'd find in Thailand. A couple of good beaches (not Thai level, but way less people) and a few offshore islands for your snorkelling/chilling out on a hammock kind of deal. Way cheaper, too (than Thailand).
Check out

enjoy whatever you do, it'll be a blast no matter what. |

Thanks for the advice
How about transportation? We want to go to Angor Wat and Phnom Penh, and maybe some more places in Indochina, and then travel to the Philippines. What is the best way to get there from Indochina? A flight from Bangkok? Saigon? |
