hey all... this might have been posted before but i didn't feel like searching through the hundreds of posts to find a possible answer...
my question is this.... has anyone sent for a CBC through the RCMP in Canada, while living in Korea? I'm just looking for any info possible that could make this task as easy as possible... I've read what was needed on the RCMP website, but I was hoping to hear about some experiences people have had so far....
thanks in advance!!

I did it. I was lucky I had a old finger print form filled out and printed. Getting you fingerprints for RCMP test can be hit and miss in Korea.
I was further lucky as it did not take 3 to six months. It only took about a month. ALso be careful. The RCMP check will not do a VSS. The korean government wants a VSS. So until the Canadian and Korean government hash out what is happening the RCMP check is in limbo.
Some more advice is make sure you have a clear understandable Korean address. I have heard of people waiting and waiting for something lost in the Korean or Canadian postal system. Mt advice is use a business address like a hagwon or your schools office!
Good Luck! |

... what's a VSS?? also, are some police stations better than others when it comes to getting prints done? i'm in daejeon, and i'm not sure which police station to go to.... it seems many people have had so many different experiences with this crap.... arrgghhhh!! |

VSS is the "Vunerable Sector Search". All it is the RCMP or whatever police department you are using checks you background a little further looking for any other stuff that has been expunged or never went to court, etc. More to do with if you are working with vunerable people like children. But as I commented the RCMP and Daejeon Immigration are both saying the opposite to each other. RCMP saying no we will not give VSS and the Koreans saying we want the VSS. You might want to see if you can find some other alternatives then the by MAIL RCMP check.
As to getting fingerprints done in Daejeon. I don't know. As I said it is hit and miss. People say all you have to do is go to a police station. But little ones will give you a blank look, while bigger (gu) ones may give you help could just as easily give you a no go. Someplaces may have a form - while others will not have a form. You'll also need a proper form or a form that has been translated a little.
Do a search on the forum use the following key words CRC, CBC, VSS, Criminal Record, Background Check, RCMP. |

Just did mine and submitted it to immigration today. You DO NOT need fingerprints done. The VSS is included - just check the box on the online form. I used CBM Paralegal office talked about on this board. Mine was a rush rush situation and he had everything done and back to me in two weeks. It cost a pretty penny due to the courier, but I had no choice. If you use the regular mail system it should be very reasonable. The website is: www.cbmpara.com. The FEDEX truck delivered the copy last night, I took it to the Canadian Embassy and had it stamped this morning (58,000 won) and took it straight to immi. Easy. |

The form on the website is the one to use. It is a super simple format. Anyways, I am sure he will tell you anything you are wondering when he emails you back. |

Just send in an application to Winnipeg Police Service. No ID required, no fingerprints, and they processed mine in 1 day!! VSS and all. Toronto police was about as helpful as cancer |

I sent my application to Winnipeg Police Service a month and a half ago... still waiting.
I asked them to send it directly to Korea, and I think that was my mistake.
Best is to get them to send it to a friend or family memeber in Canada and then have that person mail/courier it to you. |

move to atlantic canada, i walked in to the station, asked for a CBC, filled it out with VSS on the forum ( ididnt have to ask for this or w/e , it was on the form. I filled it out (2mins) they check it (1 min), stamped it (2 secs), handed it to me(1sec) I said thank you and walked out the door. The whole process took less then 5 mins.
