| What is a 유흥주점 (yu heung ju jeom)? I'm pretty sure it's something dirty, and the best I can come up with through the dictionary is "binge bar." Is this a place I need to stay away from? |

| Isn't every bar in Korea a "binge bar?" |

from what i've heard, a large number of these stores are owned or in some way controlled by 조폭- organized crime members. High taxes lead to expensive food and alcohol, too.
Lots of "pretty" (aka often disease infested) girls work at these places.. |

just an ajussi bar. A bar for married guys to go to with their colleagues.
If they are alone, the pretty staff talk to them and wait on them hand and foot.... some of these bars offer 'extra' services.
Avoid them if you are poor. Enjoy them if you have the money. |

| Ah... So these are the "hostess bars" I've heard so much about. Well, from what I've heard, I could afford neither the alcohol nor the "special services," so I know to avoid those places. Thanks everyone. |

| I have definitely found a few surprises in bars in Korea, when all I wanted was a nice tall, cool, refreshing beer. Oh, well. What's up with all the stares from the Korean men. Can't they keep their tongues in their mouths? And will they really hump anything? |
