I noticed on the Gepik 2008-2009 Gepik contract concerning airfare reinburstment, that the airfare will be reinbursted within 30 days. Actually how long do I have to wait to get the money? I need it for my first months living expenses. Smile

Assume you'll get it on day 30. Bring money.

Like the previous poster said, bring enough money to make it through the first contract month. If you have orientation (which I'm sure you do) for another 9 days, bring some extra money for that. At the current exchange rate, $800-1000 USD should hold you over fine, plus you get an extra 300,000 won once you settle into your apartment at your POE. You should get that within the first week probably.

9 days??? Woah. My GEPIK orientation was 4 days. You don't need much money there, as all your meals, etc are provided. Don't plan on it lasting 9 days. That's crazy.

I heard some where that before orientation finishes Gepik gives you a check for the reinburstment of the airfare? Confused

They deposit the reimbursement into your bank account, which you need to set up after orientation. Everyone I know got their reimbursement with their first pay - I doubt that they'd give you a cheque since you won't even have a bank account to deposit it into until at least the week after orientation.

So, you are saying I should get myreimbursement for airfare after being in Korea for one week? I heard from some other people they take two weeks. I was wondering if I should put my airfare on my credit card just to be safe. Being, I need the money for my first months living expenses? Confused

Umm.. I said "Everyone I know got their reimbursement with their first pay", sorry if that wasn't clear. First pay usually on the 25th of the month, which could be a long way away depending on when you arrive in Korea.

I think the general point that we're all trying to make is that you shouldn't depend on that money being available right away, hence my recommendation at the very beginning that you should bring money with you.

I appreciate you clearing that up. Smile

You can't get paid until you have a bank account. You can't get a bank account until you have an Alien Registration Card. You can't get an Alien Registration Card until you have a Health Certificate. It takes about a week to get your health test results back and for you to get a certificate saying you are healthy, it takes about another week after you apply at Immi for your ARC to see that. Then you have to go to the bank to set up the account. Then at long last you will get your flight reimbursement plus settlement bonus plus first month's pay on the 25th.

GEPIK orientation is 4 nights and 5 days at most, but the most recent ones were scaled back to 3 nights and 4 days. Chances are that the next orientation won't be until April or May though....so you may have been here for a while before you actually get to go to one.

So, what's the point?... by then, won't they already be 'oriented'? Wink

They have to wait until they have enough recruits on the programme to justify hiring out a conference centre for a week. So some unlucky souls have to wait up to 4 months sometimes until they get sent to an orientation.

check with your bank on this one.
I was fortunate enough to need only my passport to open an account (I had a few hundred USD ready to deposit)

You should get in 3-4 weeks.
-Over a week of orientation
-You have to wait 1-2 weeks for a ARC.
-Get a bank account with your arc, passport, and employment info.
-Wait under a week for gepik to deposit your airfare money into your account.
