I am thinking no....but, if they will, it would make things convenient for me.

I bank with KB and was told several years ago that there is a 15,000 won charge to cash a check. I suppose if it's a large check, it would be worth it. As it is, I just have my family deposit money into my American account for me.

I was doing a part-time job in Gangnam a four years back and the guy was going bankrupt....The bank was removing furniture the last day I was working there.
Well, I got word that the wangjang was planning on moving to Canada the next day and told the Korean teachers not to show up for work (apparently, I was not told and went there), when I got there, he was on the verge of packing his things.
I asked him about my pay and he pulled out a checkbook from a Canadian bank and started to write it out to me.
I demanded to be paid in cash or else I would go to the tax office and tip them off that he was about to make a run for it (and tip them that he had hired a foreigner without filing the proper tax forms, which would've landed him in jail for 6 months and he would've been fined 20 million won)....neither he nor I would budge on the issue until I called my friend in front of him for the address to the main Gangnam tax office and I started breaking things around the office.
That was when he agreed to pay me. We went down to the nearest bank where he withdrew the amount he owed me and he ran away.....

From what I know, no bank in Korea would accept a check drawn out from a person overseas account.
NEVER take a check unless it is the valid 100,000/1,000,000 won check issued by the BoK

It doesn't look like you know a lot, eh? To the OP: Yes, you can deposit an overseas check here. But, depending on how long it takes for the check to clear, the funds will not be available for 4-6 weeks. I bank with Woori, and their average is about 4 weeks.

What bank did you use?
The banks I dealt with didn't want to deal with a personal check coming from a foreigner, no matter if they had an ARC or not......
But I guess it could depend which bank you deal with. But from my experience, KEB wouldn't do it, neither would Koomin or Woori........

Maybe Citibank or Standard Charter might.....

My guess is it's possible, but I wouldn't do it. Anytime I get a check, I endorse it for deposit only and wrap it in a piece of white paper and mail it to my bank back home(the white paper is so that it can't be seen through the envelope). Usually the funds are there within 2 weeks, most of the time sooner.

Its not a personal check or a paycheck, its a check from Poker winnings. (over1k thank you very much) I guess I should have cleared that up.

The banks will cash the check, but it will take 3-4 weeks for it to clear.

So, you won't be able to get the money right away.
