Has anyone here met any famous Korean people?
Who? Where? When?
What were they like?
What language did you communicate in?
If you had the chance, which famous Korean people would you like to meet in the future and why? |

I got to shake Colin Powells hand at Korea University when he gave a speech last July.
But Koreans? Not yet.
I would seriously love to run into either Tiger JK or Baek Yoon-shik. Both are two of my favorite entertainers from ANY country. |

| Met the director for Winter Sonata twice. Had dinner with him once, another time to show up to his father's funeral. Pretty humble guy. |

Four and a half years ago, I had a drunk female movie star practically sit in my lap.
She was best friends with my former co-worker, and was fluent in English. We were all at a Noraebang (upscale) in Apkujeong next to California Fitness.
She and her boyfriend, another star, had just broken up. She was waaasted. I was seated at the corner of the table, and she sat right on the corner of it, dangling her legs over mine. Her friends pulled her away, saving her from further embarrasment. Later that evening, she tried to leave with some other waygook who was there, but her manager had showed up and decided it was time to take her home. |

I met a singer who was more famous in the past then she is now. Her name was Lee, Sang-Eun. I guess she used to be popular in her younger days. She was at a bar in hongdae called 360@ which had a small pool thing where you can put your legs in. Anyway, she jumped in the water and was all wet. Some guys who were sitting next to me and my friends were in the music industry and pointed her out and mentioned she was famous. Me and a friend went up to her and struck up a conversation.
Not very eventful. I'd like to meet some hot younger stars someday but oh well. |

They were staying at the Hotel Intercontinental at COEX. I saw Dwayne Wade in the lobby. They played a game at Jamsil. |

| A friend of mine drank with 2 of the Backstreet Boys at Polly's Kettle after their show 2 years ago. They walked in at like 3 am. That story cracks me up for some reason...I only wish I'd been there, as it probably would have been the all-time most surreal moment in Korea for me. Which is saying alot. |

Kobe wasn't with the team at the time. He was doing some kind of promotion for Adidas or Nike.
He was walking around Hongdae with about three or four body guards. I was on a patio and said "what's up" while he walked by. He responded in turn. Nice enough guy, but I wonder if his wife knew he was out on the town
I also saw the American basketball team at Jamsil. I guess they were in Seoul to prepar for the World Championships in Japan later that month. |

I met Shawn Michaels and shook his hand and wished him good luck when I was 10.
I also met Jake the Snake Roberts.
But this was all back in Canada. |

I had a couple of beers with Stu Cook and Doug Clifford of CCR at the old Stompers on top of the hill in Itaewon. That was New Year's Eve 1995.
I tooka couple members of "Smokie" (Living Next Door to Alice) diving two years ago. Got tix to the show and invited backstage afterwards. Great guys. |

I met Hyori in early 2003. I was new to the country and didn't know who she was. She was sitting at a bar in Gangman with some friends and since I had come over here with stories of how much Korean women loved white guys, I was full of confidence and asked to join them. They obliged and we drank together for about 5 hours. Man, could she throw them back. She was super cool. Kinda shy, cute and flirty all in one. Not too good at English, but two of her friends did a lot of translating. She really dug me. Did a lot of hand holding (ooooh, score! ), got her phone number and, as my Irish buddy tells the story, she tried to ditch her friends to be alone with me.
I don't remember much of that cuz I was pissed out of my skull. The best part, again accoring to my Irish buddy, was that I turned her down! He said that at one point I got up to go to the bathroom and she followed a few minutes later. He saw us talking, hands on each other's hips, at the entrance of the little hall leading to the bathroom. Then he said I let out a big laugh and shouted, "No alone. Everyone here is so cool. Let's keep drinking!" 6-8 months later she was the talk of the town with her 10 minute stuff. I shot her some text messages, but only got one reply: "Sorry. Very busy. No meeting."
Anyone buy that? |
