When the Cheonggyecheon development was in its initial planning stages planners said cyclists would be able to ride along the whole length of Cheonggyecheon. Much to the disappointment of many Seoul cyclists that did not turn out to be the case, as the streamside pathways proved to be too narrow and full of walkers.
The good news is Seoul City Hall is going to greatly widen the road level pavements running beside the top of the stream walls. At the moment there's very little room to walk there and people with strollers and prams effectively can't use it.
I hope this chnage goes ahead without any major hitches. It's a good move by city hall.

Seoul City is planning to renovate the Cheonggye stream area to make it more convenient.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government yesterday said it would widen the pedestrian walkway along the stream from 1 meter to 4 meters by reducing the width of the road that runs alongside it. Such a change will occur in the 880-meter section between the Cheoggye Square and the Samil Bridge.
The pedestrian walk along the upper stream is presently just wide enough for an adult, making it difficult for baby carriages or wheelchairs to pass through.
Seoul City will input 1.65 billion won ($1.2 million) in the renovation, to accommodate a wider range of visitors, according to SMG officials.
It will also broaden the pedestrian road connecting Seoul Square and the Cheonggye stream to provide better access to the facilities.
Also, 50 bicycles will be available for free rental along the lower Cheonggye stream, said officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Facilities Management Corporation yesterday.
The three-hour rental will be free of charge and open to any citizen 12 or older from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Members of the Cheoggye Public Cycling Club can rent bicycles by showing their rental card and non-members after going through an authentication process using their mobile phones
The rental area is located near the Shindap station, Line 2, or the Majang station, Line 5.
Cyclists may take a relaxing ride and enjoy the natural environment in the 5.4-kilometer section from the lower stream up to Seoul Forest, said SMFMC officials.
In the upper stream, the use of bicycles will be restricted due to the high concentration of pedestrians.
