Looking for a few reads about China,
China Road by Gifford
The Man Who Loved China and the River at the Center of the World, both by Simon Winchester
China Shakes the World
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (unabridged) by Luo Guanzhong
I'm going on vacation and would like something to read while I'm vacation. I have a few books of my own I'd be willing to swap, but not all that many. I burn thru books so I don't really want to pay top dollar from WhatTheBook for a one week read. Thanks in advance. |

If your reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms, you may perfer his other book Water margins or "108 bandits of Lishang marsh"(something like that).
That book was awesome and stands the test of time although it's a little juvenile in comparison (Lots of guys kicking ass, eating beef, getting drunk, kicking thousands of asses, and basically being men). Just make sure you get a decent unabridged edition(like the Sidney Shapiro translation) |

I've read good things about Water Margin. I think Mao said young men shouldn't read it b/c of the 'to the extreme' action and old men shouldn't read RTK because of all the political machinations. My whole interest in China stems from RTK and I've already read it a few times so I'd like to have it while I'm traveling, but I'll look into Water Margin when I get back. |
