Are you sure you're not talking about Daejeon? If so, its a big city of over one million people. Should be alot to do. IF not, its only 1 hour via KTX to Seoul.

^^^I think he means Daechon the beach.

I don't live there but I've visisted a few times. The beach is pretty nice, especially in the official "off season" when it's warm enough to swim but not warm enough to bring an army of Korean families, complete with their umbrellas, floaty toys, chairs, mats, chilly bins, and kitchen sinks. I think it's about two and a half hours to Seoul by train. Personally, I liked the vibe of the place and wish I lived there instead of where I am BUT I love the beach. If you're after more options as far as nightlife and socializing goes, a bigger city would probably be a better bet.

Sorry I can't help more. Someone who lives there will obviously be able to give you a better idea.

Your social life during the weekdays would center around your workmates, Korean, (or westerners if you even have any). Not much to do in those country towns, but great wonderings out and about in the countryside. For drinking you will have a local hof, or some chicken hof, and good luck finding a decent cup of coffee in that town.

It really comes down to how you want to interact with locals in town and how you conduct yourself in the town too. But at age 23, this might not be the life you are looking for.

cheers weatherman.

well im looking to embrace the culture fully so coffee and pizza will be replaced by green tea and kimchi methinks (very much looking forward to this aspect).

the beach really appeals as does living somewhere so different to london.

i guess its just the luck of the draw really in such a small place...
