I head from a very credible source that Wonderland(the entire franchise), is Bankrupt! Is it simply a rumor, or is it a fact? |

The head office that grants franchise licenses? or the 110+ individually owned and operated Wonderlands throughout Korea?
I find it a bit hard to believe that each independent owner of a Wonderland school simultaneously lost their shirts. That's like saying Subway went bankrupt and are closing all their stores. |

How the hell could a company like that go bankrupt when all they do is collect a perentage.
Then again I could never understand how McDonald's could lose money as they did last year. |

Do you want to give us the name of this source, or are you going to make us guess? As to the truth of this rumor, if it is true I am not surprised. It was only a matter of time. |

I teach at a hogwan in Incheon a couple of days a week and I was discussing Wonderland cirriculum with the owner of that hogwan and he told me he said he was certain. The guy is pretty straight up. He said he reason why was that they spent too much money on thier facilities which is right. The school I used to work a is all about image first. They haven't got a clue about education. |

The Wonderland name is so well-known in Korea. It seems to have a good reputation with Koreans, but an awful one with us teachers.
Anyway, the economy in Korea is so crappy right now, it wouldn't surprise me. Who knows what those guys at the head office were doing with money. Sometimes people spend past their means.
Could all be rumor too.
I'm back home in the USA now for Christmas, and the economy here is starting to take off. I wonder if Korea will follow suit?
Somehow, I doubt it. I also wonder what the new excuse for Koreans will be as the US economy improves, and theirs stays in the crapper.
Who will they blame then? |

Why not blame Canada? It seems to be the thing to do these days when you have a problem, and the government is too spineless to do anything. |

well gimpo wonderland is advertising for teachers at present.
conditions are
Quote: |
- Salary : 2 million krw/m (Before Tax)
- Teaching Hours : 150 hrs/m
- 1 million krw bonus after 1 year contract
- Vacation 2 weeks( summer and winter respectively)
- American accent and those already in Korea preferred |
they don't seem to be providing airfare and I think that they have decied to halve the severance payment unless the bonus is paid on top of it.
yikes

I think the severance is law. Actually I am quite sure it is. The plane ticket isn't, but they won't be able to find a non-nigerian teacher for that wage. |

I realise the severance is the law the plane ticket isn't but it wouldn't be below some hogwons to try and dodge paying the severance. The airfare is a sweetner to get us lot over here.

It's clearly an ad for a new comer. Someone who's not at all familiar with the laws in Korea. Much as I was and much as others were and will be.
In my opinion, it's just to snag a new comer who doesn't do any research.
My sympathies go to the poor schmuck who does sign a contract like that.
Cheers
Ooops. I just read the last part about wanting someone in Korea already. I guess they are hoping that the charm of the place wins out and no one will be too upset with losing out on a million won. |

I had the same thing tried on mr at Eastern English. They figured I was broke and desperatly needed a job. I'm much better off as it is. I know that the Wonderland I worked at in Pupyong is shutting down thier kindy programe. I don't really care about the frnchise but I would sure love to see the screws put to the school I worked at the lying heartless bastards |
