I finished my stint at a hagwon, August '07 to Sept '08 did a lil traveling, then came back to the States with the hopes of working at a public school in December. Looking for work West of Seoul (Gimpo area preferrably)

I swear the past 2 months have been spent sorting the losers, liars and lames that all tell me that I must wait until March.

In a sense, okay.. I know that is when the BIG hire is. But are there no schools? Not really... I have seen ads on worknplay (for a public school where I want it) but talking with those people has been a general crapshoot as well.

Just talked with one recruiter that pulled the ol' switch-a-roo: He found me work in Bucheon then said oh.. they can't hire until March, but Ansan is better.. they will pay for your flight! I was livid. Do Koreans think every Westerner is stupid as far as geography is concerned?

I have went through about 7 recruiters with disappointment. Anyone have a story / similar situation / information to share? (the 411 on hiring schools hiring early welcome Smile )

Thats the crap you get when you want public school. You will only get hired around March or August/September. Once in a while you can find a public school that needs somebody right now or in a few weeks. But 99 percent of public schools hire around the semesters.

The public schools in my area seem to be hiring year-round. I started in August. I could have started anytime I wanted.

They'll do anything to get a Native teacher here, because the majority of the schools out here have never been able to get one. No one really wants to live here in nowhere Chungnam, so that's probably why.

I know schools that hire outside of August/March but not as many as those that do (usually the ones where a foreign teacher has left). Schools don't like not having teachers for part of a semester.
