So I'm not 100% sure when I'm heading out to Korea yet, still in Canada, but I've got a phone interview Monday so it may be as soon as the end of the month.
Anyways, I'm wondering about bringing my laptop with me but I'm not sure if there is a point. I KNOW that they have a very VERY good internet service, but not knowing much about computers I don't know whether the programs I could get there would work on my computer from here, whether I'd need a new wireless card, or whether mine from here will work...and really, whether there is a point to bringing mine with me (although I am almost positive I'd like to have internet in my apartment).
Now, these may seem like dumb questions to people out there, keep in mind I've only been outside North America to visit for no more than a couple weeks at a time. I know they have probably more technology than we have here, so I'm not THAT ignorant, I just don't know how compatible North American computer gear is with Korean programs/internet. |

Your wireless card will work. Most programs you will download off the internet anyway - Korean programs will generally be in Korean, but should work on your computer anyway. |

Take your laptop. Wario picked up a wireless signal in his apartment building (intermittently) as soon as he moved in. Not so good on weekends, probably because whoever's router it was, was only in the building during the weekdays?
Plus it will be a month or so before you can get a phone and you'll be able to keep in touch with family and new friends online. |

The only issue I ran into was getting a plug converter. I was able to buy one for 500 won (less than 50 cents) at a nearby hardware store. You can "borrow" internet on wifi just fine until you get real internet. |

By all means bring it. I did that when I came over here. I ran my first laptop into the ground and then when I went home brought a new one over with me and gave the old one to my wife (which soon after stopped working for internet). I've never had an issue using either of the laptops from the US over here. |

Thanks everybody.
I'm sure I'll have more questions before I go, and for sure many more when I get there and this is a really good resource, so thanks again. I look forward to being able to post more knowledgeable posts once I get there haha. |
