supposedly for EVERYONE, even existing teachers?
anyone else know anything about this?
my coordinator just showed the "official document from the GEPIK educational office).
anyways - what's the deal?
supposedly attendance will be limited to 500. Which means they'll make up a list..
hopefully I'm NOT on the list. I'm skeptical anything new and useful can be revealed to me at this affair and getting there to Bundang is about as inconvenient as I can imagine... as well as getting back!! urrrgggghhhh! |

someone hid this in a thread on the Job Discussion board.
apparently it's some kind of "workshop".
which I don't mind, especially if it'll be something useful (I'm betting it won't, especially for my vocational highschoolers)
but TWO Phucking hours to get there and another phucking two to get back....
probably standing most of the time on the subway??
seriously seriously seriously peeved, I am. |

I just had one of those in Gyeongju last week. Took three hours to get there. It was fun and I actually enjoyed it. I learned some good techniques to work into my classes. I say go for it. Its a day off from work afterall! |

This was sprung on me yesterday. It's gonna be one hell of a long haul.
The Gepik website has no information other than directions and my school has only told me that it's not optional.
*sigh* See ya there. |

| They invite the teachers who have shown to not have a clue. Glad I've never been "invited" to one. |

I don't see how that could be true, because I've never been to a Gepik orientation or met a single soul that worked for them. I'm not convinced that they know I'm a real person.
I've also taught EFL to the satisfaction of other employers in different countries and from what I can tell Korea has some pretty low standards for English teachers.
I'm most worried about the comfortable shoes bit. If they really are concearned with my perfomance, I hope I'm not forced to run wind sprints or something. |

nonsense. Not sure about this workshop, but for e.g. if you are a first time GEPIK teacher, even if you have years of hagwon experience, or public school experience elsewhere (I do not, but met many others who did) , you are still required to attend GEPIK orientation. I had to attend the one in June I think it was. |

Grrrr...hoping to somehow become convincingly sick that day because I cannot fake a sick day to save my life. |

Tonight Korean teachers received the application which applies for a spot at the workshop next week. Your KT must apply for a spot by the end of tomorrow or you can't go. The people allowed to go to the workshop will be posted to your school on Monday. Yes, two days before the actual workshop.
Priority will be given to those who entered GEPIK this year and who haven't been to a workshop. Those like myself who weren't hired this year but who wish to go will be allowed permission to attend if there's enough spots. |

Hmmmmm, sounds like they booked the "fire hall" without thinking about how many people would be coming to the wedding reception. Oops! |

Hay bogey666 what agoodmouse writes is correct. My K teacher said only those who came this year and have not attended a GEPIK conference are required to go. This happened last year; although I think the Everland trip was compulsary. |

I dunno.
I mentioned this to my coordinator and she called the education office right in front of me, to check.
(and she's not the type to make me go to these things, if anything the opposite)
she says she was told it's a "workshop" NOT Orientation and all FT's are required to go to it.
anwyays.. whatever.. if it weren't for the long commite, I'd actually enjoy getting out of this environment for a day. |

| Anyone in Suwon want to go together? I arrived from Austin right after orientation in October. It'd be awesome to meet another foreign teacher from my town, chat on the bus, etc. Email me if you're interested. Thanks! |
