I've decided to switch jobs, and by the grace of the forces of the universe I obtained 2 copies of my CRC in the US before I came and have a backup copy laying around. I got them at the end of July and I heard they only remain valid for 6 months. I would think it would be a year, but anyone know for sure?

You need to get a new CRC if it has been more than 6 months since you submitted your last one. Sucks, I know, but that's straight from immigration (I just transferred my visa so this is current info).

That's so dumb in the case you're resigning for another year and haven't been to your home country in a year or longer. This means that you have to produce it a couple months before your contract ends and it's not as easy as visiting your state police office and getting the CRC notorized since you're not home to do it like you were the 1st time around.

crc is valid for 6 months? Oh good cos I got mine done on 28th Nov. Most public high school jobs start in March. I thought mine would be expired by then as I heard it was 90 days. Mine is a British CRC. Can anyone confirm that the 6 month rule also applied to the Brits?

Thanks that's a relief! I've been worried about it for quite some time and was considering getting another one

What's the time frame these days for obtaining a CRC (with vulnerable sector search) in Canada. Anyone done it recently? Last time I enquired (back in December 2007, last year) there was almost a 5 month backlog!

Another reason why i will be glad to be done with E2 visas. I figured immi would be too stupid to keep CBCs on file. What a pain if a person changes jobs, and every time, has to submit a new CBC. Ridiculous.

If you've already submitted one, immigration will just use that as long as you haven't left the country (or have gone back home). If you're Canadian and your last one didn't have a VSS, you'll have to order it again with VSS.

Will you be giving the correct notice at your present public school in order to go to a new job? If you dont do this, and leave before the 6 month mark and also pay back all your airticket refund and 300 000 settlement allowance, you could easily find you get some issues with getting the next visa.
The airticket refund is now always given to public school teachers as a 'loan' and this loan can be claimed back by the office of education in court.
Also, of interest, for public schools recruiters are responsible for your leaving or running for 6 -9 months after your arrival. Your recruiter will have to refund the offfice of education his fee as well, so wont be happy on this score.
