Hey,

I have recently had an interview with a school and everything seemed to go well untill i was asked to send a 15 minute teaching video presentation of myself to the school (that is a long time talking to a camera).....i dont know anything about how to do this and what i should do!

Anyways its a job that pays 2.1-2.2 a month and I am just wondering if this is them asking alot or is this usual??

I look forward to your replies...your help and advice would be much appreciated.

Yeah i agree!

I told the agency first time about it and I said that I would not do it, so they informed the school, came back to me saying everything is good they want to offer you the job anyways.....then today I recieved an email saying they changed their mind and now i have to do the video presentation thing and send it!

Oh, but they did say sorry! Well I'll just forget about this school.

That seems quite laughable. If the job is paying 5mill a month I can understand their justification for requesting a video. But for your run-of-the-mill job? Nope, there are plenty of other good jobs out there.

Also, when they say yes it's ok and then change their minds again so quickly, that just shows what it maybe like if you work there and how what is said one minute and what would be said the next.

It isn't 'usual' but it isn't unheard of either. All they really want is for you to set up a video camera in your classroom and turn it on for 15 minutes. The school will then be able to see you in action: see how you interact with students, judge your voice quality. A video would tell far more about you as a teacher than a telephone interview ever could.

For a job that only pays 2.1-2.2 a month - its not worth it...

(unless part of the benefits is maximum of 25 hours work per week and a HUGE villa for you to live in)..

(there are much better jobs out there - that do not need you to send a video)

Ya-Ta boy, i would have no problem setting up a camera in my classroom but the fact is I dont have a class, im in the UK, i would have to set up a camera and try to teach a subject for 15 minutes with no tools, no classroom, no students....so i feel it would not be a fair reflection on me or my teaching method.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
