I know sometimes people want to get a credit card in Korea, but have a tough time finding someone who can speak English and help them apply.
If you're interested in getting a KEB credit card, and work at a university or a public school, this guy may be able to help you out. He speaks English well enough. Sorry, hagwon teachers are not eligible. Sucks, I know. Pretty much a standard rule in Korea.
His name is Lee Heung-yun, and he is in Seoul. He works for KEB (Korea Exchange Bank) card services.

| I assume this is for an unsecured CC, right? Any KEB offers secured cards. |

| Last time I went to KEB for a credit card, they said only expats could get one. According to them, an expat is someone that works at a University or a Global 500 company. |

So what is to stop someone to from get a couple of credit cards. Then charge a first class ticket and order a bunch of stuff for home back wherever when they leave the country?
It's not like Korea can go after you. You just can't come back to Korea I would guess. |

Visa / American Express are GLOBAL companies...
KEB and Samsung can give you a credit card - however they will be through a GLOBAL company...
It would destroy you credit rating in your home country... |

Actually, from what I understand it is the banks that back these cards. They do not access credit ratings from America. Nor do they impact American credit ratings and report to the three credit bureaus in America.
If you leave debt here on a KEB card KEB can only come after you in Korea. They have no authority in America/Canada/Britain. Nor can they impact your credit rating there.

"In conclusion, credit reports and profiles do not transfer from one country to the next. When moving to a new country, you will have to start from a no credit profile, therefore you may have to apply for a secured credit card to build a credit score."
So again, I ask. What's to stop you from getting a couple of cards. Maxing them out and get yourself a big bonus. Then bouncing from the country?
I'm more curious to see if they would ban you from ever coming to or working in Korea again. |

That`s been done by Chinese and Nigerians before so that`s why banks are so hesitate to give unsecured credit cards to foreigners. |

True they are global companies but credit cards and ratings are not. They cannot check from country to country or chase people to pay. |

No, if you work at a hagwon, forget it. Maybe you can get a pre-paid type of card where you pre-pay you balance, but I have only heard of those things.
It wasn't until recently that public school folks might even have a chance, as I understand it. |
