hahaha...At the end of February, five of us are leaving our poor exuse for a job. I am worried though that they will be crying and screaming when they have five of us to pay the final monthly salary to, plus five of us for severance and airfare. Not to mention the others who will stay (the Koreans, one Canadian and a couple of gyopos) will be owed their monthly salary. Should I call the labor board now to light a fire under their butts that they better pay what they owe? I am afraid they will come up with some excuse about having all that money to pay. And I don't want to wait until the end of February to see them cry "we have no money". Also, last year I re-signed for another year in December pkus an extra 2 months until the end of February and the jerks waited until the end of February to give me my one year severance. Sorry...severance is one year, not 14 months, so actually they owe me my severance now instead of in February. The other 4 teachers started in Feb.

The Korean Hakwon will likely tell you that your last severance pay was made in Feb, it's a yearly severance, therefore the next payment is due in February. February 2008 - December 2008 is 10 months at best, sorry. Laughing

once someone has completed a year at a job any additional months are pro-rated when calculating severance.

Let me explain: Your next severance payment will be paid 1 year after the last severance payment which was made in February 2008. The next payment is earned at the end of February 2009.

Hopefully, you will get paid by March 2009.

No, you should be paid after you have worked 12 months. She worked Dec 2006-Dec 2007. She should be paid Jan 1 her severance, not 2 months after that contract was finished.
Now her 2nd year will be completed at the end of this month. She should not have to wait 2 months to get it.

LOL. Your hogwon will be stronger than ever without you five.

Hilarious how these hogwons sell you so easily. Laughing

I'm just telling you what the Korean hagwon boss will say. Why do you think that he paid 2 or 3 months late? If she leaves in December, that will be a great excuse for the Korean to stiff her out of $2K or so.

I'm sure the Labor Board will hang up on you if you called them about something that might happen.

labor will do nothing until something has actually happened. It's a purely reactive organization.
