I'm not sure if anything will be closed. Most haggies still have class. My public school is closed (but I'm not sure about others). I know one of the big things in Korea on Christmas is to walk around Myeongdong, so I'm assuming everything will be open. Remember, Christmas is basically a Hallmark holiday in Korea. |

Yes. Some places close, but it is business as usual for many. |

I have heard that some hogwons are open tomorrow. Poor guys.
I went to Costco this past weekend, the one in Sangbong, they had 4 turkeys there. They weren't butterball though. So, I went to Haddon House and picked up a 14 pound bird. They also had boneless turkey, around 3.5 pounds, a lot smaller and could be cooked in one of those small convection ovens.
I hope everyone has a very enjoyable day. May Santa find his way to your apartment. |

I'm going to Costco to get a fresh pecan pie and some Belgian chocolates for my students to share... I have nothing better to do tomorrow as friends are out of town on real vacations, not just the single day I have |

Shopping for groceries on Christmas day? Jeez man, go out and get drunk or something you squares. Jesus would've probably wanted you to go out and wet the baby's head. |

Every hagwon I know is (and has been for at least the past six years) closed Christmas day and New Year's day, but I'm not in one of the big cities, so maybe rural folk gladly honor the national holidays.
And since my hagwon contract stipulates two weeks in addition to national holidays I got to take my 10-day holiday trip (flying off today!) and use up just one week of vacation days coming to me. (The other week I use in the middle of summer. And I like to take a month off inbetween contracts, which is begrudgedly accepted because I'd cost the hagwon owner more to find a new guy with recruiter fees and airfare than to acquiesce to my re-signing need.) |

I haven't noticed much closed today.
Christmas is merely another public holiday. Other than that, it doesn't have much meaning for most Koreans. If you don't believe me, go into a PC band and notice all the people (many are students). People are catching up on shopping too.
So much for 50% of Koreans being Christians. It is merely a group designation with little or no religious significance here. Fortunately, the commercialization is far less than in other countries. I presume that will change in the distant future though. |
