What are the real consequences of doing a runner, and has anyone ever ran in their last month??? I don't ever plan on getting another E2 either or teaching again either. |

If it were a run in their last month, I would say there would no immigration consequence. However if you were entitled to severence pay - that could well be forfeited.
You would however be asked whether you are planning on returning before the expiration (and you better have an answer worked out). If you are not, I would turn in my ARC.
However if it were a runner sooner than 1 month before expiration, I would say the profile would be flagged and that would show up in any future visa application (regardless of whether that be an E2, D or any other category). |

In this weather it's cold.
Otherwise there are none.
You could always right a letter back dated. go to immigration with it and say you quit but the school won't recognise the letter and ask to be cancelled |

That would be fraud and illegal. Sobriquet, you really have no idea, do you? |

Princess,
You will not face any consequences from immigration, especially if your ARC card is about to expire. |

You are not an indentured servant here in Korea. You can leave anytime you want. Princess's ARC is about to expire, there is no immigration issue here. |

What if, hypothetically, I were to pull a runner 5 months into the contract because I despise my location and apartment. Would it be possible to come back to Korea 3-4 months later to work in Seoul? I would be leaving a public school and returing to work at a hagwon. Would I be able to obtain another visa? |

Just give your notice so you don't have to pay back your flight. You'll never get another visa if you owe money to your previous employer. |

I was already in Korea when they hired me 2 years ago, so I owe then zilch for a flight. I have worked 2 years with not even one full sick day taken. I am thinking of quitting because I want 3 extra days off at Lunar New Year, and I still might not get them even though I told them I will be willing to lose double pay for those three days. They messed around so long with my visa extension that I got screwed out of a Christmas vacation and I have business to take care of in the states. I think a good, loyal employee like me should get some respect. Not to mention other teachers have taken extra unpaid days off before and sick days...especially teachers in their first year, and I am in my second. |

Plans change. What if your plans don't work out and you have to go back to teaching? |

Yes, plans change, but I don't want to teach forever, certainly not in a hagwon or in Korea. I just don't see myself spending the rest of my life working for a Korean boss. Who would want to mess with an E2 visa and its hassles forever??? I wouldn't even teach with an F visa in Korea. |

Princess,
Will you be receiving your bonus this month, as it is one year after your renewed? There was some discussion about that on another thread. I am always of the mind to give the proper notice you agreed to. So, once you get your bonus, then give your 30 days notice. But, really, you are so close to finishing up. Then you can get your plane ticket and be done with it. I know it can be tough working at a place that doesn't respect you.
You have come this far. And you will feel better once you are done, and know that you did all that you could to honour your end of the deal.
If you can't hold on, then go. There is absolutely nothing the school can do. You are free to go anytime. They can't stop you at the airport.
Best wishes to you. |

Some friends of mine, a married couple, did a runner years ago. Like you, they never planned to ever teach in Korea nor have they ever returned even to visit. They were in a situation where their hagwon hadn't paid them for what they thought was a seriously long breach of time, so they left. They took what funds they had accumulated and just handed their ARC's, or what was the ARC then, to the Immigration officer at the airport and boarded their plane. Immigration cannot stop you from leaving if you are not wanted and your passport has not been accordingly flagged by the authorities.
It would help for you to get your accumulated pension before you go, too. It would be worth it to get that before you go, especially in today's economic turmoil back home. Do what you can to get what you have earned and are thus entitled to before you move on with your life. Good luck. Happy Holidays. |

Yes, get your pension.
It's not an issue if you do ever come back. You can start on the pension again. I had over $3,000 in pension sitting there after just a few years. |
