Do you smoke at school? If yes, where? In an dark alley way 5 blocks from your school? In the bathroom?

When I smoked I would do it outside and discreetly. The students might see me, but I wasn't an in-their-face smoker. I respect my students and felt a bit embarrassed smoking.

I stopped for my sons.

There're not options on your poll. At my school we have a smoking room (with a heater couch and TV) 'out back' next to the maintenance office. If the weather is nice, I just smoke outside at the back.

Yes, exactly. I might smoke in the toilets if the weather is really awful but otherwise I do it on the back steps right outside the door.

And do female teachers smoke in the toilets at your school? At mine I'm sure any female teacher caught smoking anywhere near school would have her head on the chopping block.

I work at a public elementary in the boondocks and was explicitly told that I could not smoke at school (I'm a woman).

The only time I do smoke at work is when I'm at my smaller schools where everyone's too sloshed on cheap soju to really notice what I do.

You missed an option. In my school, the smoking men usually have a spot for smoking. However, a few years ago, in my small town school, teachers just smoked in the coffee room.

I have seen female teachers smoke. It wasn't at school, but at a mini-female teachers gathering at some restaurant in a semi-private room. They also invited me and some newbie young male teachers. Since this teacher was way older, she whipped out a cigarette and started puffing away. After this, 2 other younger female teachers started puffing away.

The female teachers that do puff, will do their best to hide it from the males at school, especially the older male (like in 30ish or older).

What's with women not allowed to smoke at your school? It's strange but I've never seen a Korean woman smoke at all at school or wherever in Korea! Do they not partake of it?

Sorry for not including the smoking room option; I had no idea this room even existed!

Not an official room, just an unofficial room, or place, where they guys usually gather and smoke. Usually it's outside. If you're a smoker, you'll quickly find out where it is. I think it's a recent thing, maybe last 5 or so years that smokers have been forced outside.

I guess it's the culture. None of the women at my four public schools smoke (or if they do, they do it very sneakily because I've never noticed and I watch for such things). Like another poster mentioned, in Korean culture a woman shouldn't smoke in front of (older?) men.

I could probably have ignored their iron fisted "YOU CAN NOT SMOKE AT SCHOOL" and started having sneaky ciggies but it would've been noticed eventually and there would have been consequences/character judgement. Personally, I think this sucks but there's not a helluvalot I can do about it; at the end of the day, I'm the one who chose to come and live in a foreign culture.

Put me down for the poll option of "I smoke my daily allotment of ciggies in that blissful hour after school."

Teachers are supposed to be role models. Smoking at school is unprofessional and sends the message to the kids that it's OK to smoke.

Full-on smoking lounge in my school. Comfortable sofas, tv, central heat. Men only, of course (sorry ladies). School thinking is it keeps it out of sight of the students & the VP is commonly there smoke in hand. Makes for some nice camaraderie among the male teachers but I have to wonder if this is the last year before we get busted.

I usually refrain from smoking during normal working hours with children. They can smell it a mile away, and then I get a million questions. I smoke on my walk to work and my walk home once I am a fair distance away. When I work overtime, I take a walk around the block down a small alley to have a smoke since so many students are around.
