i've done this before, but my school this year wants to know the approximate cost of my vacation and have me do a short report on it when i get back. this isn't for any extra days, just my 7 contracted vacation days. is this normal?

haha the heck with that. Your vacation is YOUR TIME!!!!! Unlesse they're giving you "Professional Development" time, it's none of their business.

If you want to sit at home and do nothing, do it. If you want an excursion in Thailand, do it... If you want to go home, do it!.... Getting the drift? Very Happy

You're a government employee and this is a new thing that is being required. They're saying it's due to economic circumstances.

Just write -
Drank Singha, had sex. 500 times and tell your co-teacher it's a 2000 word essay. Wink

What does the economy have to do with it?

Required my ass. Unless it says is the OP's contract, "Employee is required to give Employer a report of all costs and activities associated with Employee's vacation," not a damn thing is required of the OP.

OP, politely tell them that no such report is required of you and it's not any of their business.

Where did you hear this; and what do economic circumstances have to do with anything?

I'm not telling them, or writing anything!

If you have to do it then just print off a university essay and put a vacation cover page on it. Not to say whoever will actually glance at your report.

Somebody is just being nosey, or worse, applying Korean management 'control' practices.

Your vacation costs are simply none of their business.Tell them, politely.

spoke too soon. my VP wants me to write more about what i'm doing... i told my co-teacher it's my personal time and i don't want to discuss what i'm doing. i know it's not a big deal, but i would've agreed if my school was nicer to me during the winter "break"

Just tell them lies like they do you most of the time.

Like this:

Day 1: Moon
Day 2: Mars
Day 3: Jupiter
Day 3: Saturn

Just use your imagination. Laughing

Just cut and paste something about the area you are staying in from wilipedia or similar. I have heard of this happening to several people. Just plain rediculous. Good luck and have a good holiday.
