I am teaching an elementary class and a middle/HS combo class for my winter camps and I am trying to find some good ice-breakers and fun activities for the first day. Any suggestions? Thanks |

Write a bunch of key words about yourself on the board such as your age place of birth, favorite music movie and hobby. Get the students to guess the question that correlates with the key word as they do this erase the words do this until the board in blank.
Name game. Have the first student say my name is_____. The next student says his name is____ my name is____. This this in sequence.
the activity gets more difficult a sstudents have to remember more names.
Have students write ten things about themselves on a piece of paper.
Then crumple it up and have a snowball fight. Each student picks up a piece of paper reads it and trys to guess who it is.
Buy a janga game. Write questions on each piece of wood. The students must remove the blows without disturbing the tower and ask questions. They do this until the tower collapses. |

Get yourself a spool of dental floss. Have everyone take a length of floss, however much or little they wish. You take a length also. Each person in turn, with you going first, wraps the dental floss around their index finger while telling the class about himself. If the student pauses in talking, he needs to pause in wrapping also. He stops when the length of floss is completely around his finger.
I've used this a few times and it works suprisingly well. |

We have many discussion of icebreakers on EFL Classroom - just search (it works!). Also I like 5 min Activities and check out our Mediafire folders, especially Activities and Games. Lots there.
I've used a great Team building site. Just scroll down the main page of EFL Classroom and find the link on the rss feed of websites on the left... actually, easier for me to grab it. Here it is... http://wilderdom.com/games/Icebreakers.html But teachers from all over the world add to our website feed and you can find lots of great ideas and new stuff there...
cheers,
DD
