I am having trouble getting SHOW to sign me up on a cell phone plan as there are only 60 days left on my Alien Registration Card before it expires and they say their company policy is that there must be a minimum of 90 days left on the card. I explained to them that I am not leaving Korea as I have a new job in a new city starting the day after the card expires, and that of course I will not be able to get a new card until that point in time.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem and found a solution?

I can't do a pre-pay plan with this type of phone and I can't just go with another company as my girlfriend bought me a new phone for Christmas as therefore it must be activated only with SHOW. A Korean friend of hers had gone into a SHOW office to make sure we'd be able to activate the phone before she bought it, and although we had a multitude of other objections from the SHOW service rep in our podunk town we seemed to find solutions for every one of her excuses to tell us 'no' other than this expiration date on the ARC business.

Any pertinent advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Maybe you could offer to pay for 90 days service up front or put some sort of deposit down until you get your new ARC.

Did you try another SHOW store? It wouldn't surprise me if you get a different excuse. Either that or it will be no problem.

put the contract in your girlfriend's name.

Or, ask about couple plans.

My girlfriend isn't Korean, so we would of course encounter the same issue as her ARC has the same dates as mine.

I finally found the KTF Customer Service for Foreigners line, but they aren't open on the weekend. So I will have to call them back on Monday.

The problem isn't so much that the shop doesn't believe that I am staying in country, but something in the system doesn't allow the account to register because of the date on my ARC. What I can't get them to understand is that SOMEONE in this billion-dollar company has the authority to do something. Just because the computer says no doesn't mean that it is impossible. I know that there is a "hal-soo upda" attitude in this society, but I refuse to believe that if the only thing preventing me from getting the contract would be 30 more days before my ARC expires that there is a way around it.

I have one, wasn't a big problem getting it. No deposit either as I used my samsung card. One thing though, I didn't need it as I've never once and nor has my wife used the "show" option.

As Jeff mentioned, it really helps if you have a Korean credit card.

i got my phone after being here for five weeks. when i went to show, the girl told me i couldn't have a year-long contract because my ARC wasn't valid for a whole year after my contract started. i told her of course it wouldn't be, the ARC itself is only valid for 51 weeks, not even a whole year. she said no about four times, i said yes four times and she said okay.

she also tried the same thing with my not having a korean credit card, but a bunch of 'yes, it is possible' from my side got me my contract.

try a few different shows, keep saying yes when they say no. it seems that if you are confident and insistent, koreans give right in Laughing it's worked every time so far....
