Thanks to the lack of information from my whitey wrangler, class started a good twenty minutes late. Stumbled through introductions and then got through half of my lesson plan.
Oh. And they want to learn about Johnny Depp, and Obama.
And american fashion.

Don't worry. They were only late because my coteacher gave them the wrong schedule. After about fifteen minutes of "Mwa?" and mime, we finally figured it out together.
My favorite part of English camp so far is having third graders in a class with first graders (middle school). If those sixteen year olds weren't thrilled about English camp before, they're really gunning to go after realizing most of the ciriculum will involve colored pencils and comic books.
God. I hate that I have to be the one to inflict this on them. I used to be cool....
Still, the English comic books have got me in most of the students' good graces. There's hope yet. |

At least yours can tell you what they want to study. Or understand you when you ask them what they want to study. I had to spend five minutes explaining what an "example" is.

I started working on a short story in class though, so at least I got something out of the time. |

Because the weren't happy with the lesson plan MOE dropped on my lap at the last minute and said teach this to the teachers. I also suggested looking up the meaning of words instead of guessing. it takes longer but you might learn something.
And I wonder why the korean education system is how it is. Christ.
I'd hate to be in her class. English Zone is English John in her mind. I should really start telling them that john is slang for bathroom. |

Mike, you should take in the quote from Mr. Lee and show it to her, and tell her the big man says we don't need to know how to teach.
Maybe they should confront their other fellow Korean "co" teachers about telling us we had to teach a class for them at the absolute last minute, while we were already busy planning student camps. And then giving us the stupidest outline ever to work with. |

I had a great first day of camp too...
1) Co-teacher was 45 minutes late to work
2) Co-teacher failed not only to prepare the requested materials, but didn't even prepare the paperwork to request the funds to buy the requested materials (a list of which I gave her almost 2 weeks ago)... *giggle giggle* oops! she forgotted.
3) No one knew what time it was supposed to start, or how long classes should run
4) The heater was broken
5) They lost the key to the gym (which had the few props we were going to use for the game as well)
6) Half the kids who were supposed to come didn't, and other random children came who weren't supposed to. |
