Reading posts about Mexican food and saw someone who was looking for tamales. Taco Amigo in Itaewon now sells them (close to the subway, by the Austrian Deli). They make them there from scratch. I tried them a few weeks ago. Shredded pork tamales. It was a refreshing change. Although they don't have the best Mexican food in Seoul, the tamales are the only ones I've seen here and they are quite good. As for price, I can't remember exactly. Not cheap, but affordable. I think close to 10,000 won for 2 or 3 with rice, beans and a drink for lunch.

where did authenticity come up in the op's post? he even mentioned that taco amigo is "not the best mexican food in seoul." do you have a better suggestion for tamales or were you just trying to impress us with your superior knowledge of "authentic" mexican? don't say your kitchen, either.

Dos Tacos is good. The one in Gangnam is by Kyobo Tower. The one in Hongdae is near Subway sandwiches, half a bloc from the university.

On The Border is the best TexMex in Korea. The one in Sinchon (exit 2, walk toward Ewha Women's Uni) is the best, the one by COEX is still good.

On a side note, if you are looking for foreign spicy food, head down to the Filipino Market in Hyehwa on Sunday afternoon. Go out Exit 1 and walk straight to the Hyehwa Rotary. The handmade dishes are excellent.

dos tacos isn't bad (compared to most mexican restaurants in korea) but i still wouldn't ever say it was good. this coming from a texan who lived in mexico.. i have high standards for mexican food!

oh and the best i've had in korea is On The Border. Amigos in Itaewon is pretty good, too (Tex-Mex).

THey are in the husks and steamed as far as I know. Taste the same as what I ate living in Texas. But they take the husks off when serving. Why? Some people don't know to do that and try eating the husks, according to the owner.

made from scratch and authentic are two different things. we both know that. i'd wager your mexican, although likely "made from scratch," is a hell of a lot different than my sister-in-law's. she is a 7th generation californian of mexican heritage, but you can be the judge as to what is legitimately authentic. hell, i make a great pesto sauce from scratch, but i'd wager there are chefs and italians out there who'd argue it isn't authentic. [mod edit]

If you get everything together, you can make them cheaper and better. Wink

Sounds interesting but it's definitely way, way too expensive for mediocre Mexican.

I can't wait to go to South America and then to Mexico. Boy would I be happy.
