|
|
This is just a heads up for people who are applying for jobs. I sit in the same office as one of the guys who wades through job applications. The ad for our school clearly states that people should not email applications.
Yet the moment after the ad comes out, the first emailed applications start to arrive. They are not being looked at. The policy of the school is to only accept applications by mail or in person. Those that ignore this are destroying their chance of getting a job.
Just a reminder. Follow the instructions in the ad. |

I applied for a uni job at 3.4 million. I got the job. The contract says 1.75. Lots of overtime from a low base number of hours will make it up, you see. I ungot the job.
Don't read the ads too carefully. Scatter your internet seeds. Why not? They often want all your details and documents from the get go, but I think that may be because they want to sell them to identity thieves. Otherwise, you would think they could hang on for some of that stuff. Your e-mail probably won't work, for sure, but on the other hand the latest victim may have just run away and you can start on Tuesday. |

Who in their right mind would want a job where the employer is so backwards that they cannot figure out how email works?
To me this signals that there probably isn't a copier or printer around the office, communication between Department heads/teachers is likely nonexistent, and the program is generally underfunded.
What kind of moron, presumably with a PhD., can't open an attachment? |

The reason is that they want to find people who are committed to the job, not just some people who see an opportunity to fire of their CV and hope to get lucky ....
Serious applications only, should be stressed. |

Then CVs should be delivered by the applicant lit up in flames riding a motorcycle through the faculty window. That's commitment!! |

What kind of moron would asume that is the reason???
Don't you think that anyone with a 1st grade education can open an attachment?
It's to keep the lazy, bulk e-mailing bottom feeders out of the decent jobs. |

I think the last two posters got it right.
But it doesn't really matter what the reason is...all I want to do is warn those who do want the job to make sure they read the job ad and do what the school wants.

My coworkers were having a laugh over the hiring process at one of the top SKY schools here. The school, which LMB would probably be proud of, interviewed my coworker last year. One of the interviewers was a foreign woman. She was a horrible interviewer. My friend, who has an MA and experience teaching at a uni in Canada, plus 8 years teaching here in Korea, was treated incredibly rudely by this woman.
If you can believe it, she started picking at his resume and belittling the schools he'd worked at (unis outside of Seoul in Kyunngi). She wanted to know why he even bothered working at those schools -- as if it was an embarrassment to have them on his resume. She questioned him about his teaching methods, and basically tried to paint herself as an ESL god.
My friend was so put off that he walked out of the interview angry. He took a job at our uni, which pays a fair amount less, but treated him well.
He also mentioned that a guy from that uni had initially called him about setting up an interview time, or something like that. My friend was away from the phone, and called back later, leaving a message with someone at the university. Days later, he got a call from this guy at the uni, who was very rude. He asked my friend why he didn't call back. My friend said, "Oh, I did, and left a message with someone." The guy from that uni then goes into a weird , "No you didn't call us" tirade, and explains to my friend that he must certainly be lying, because if he had called, it would be on his computer, He said, "I'm looking at my computer right now, and you didn't call us."
We have another coworker who knows a few teachers at that same university, which btw happens to pay in excess of 3.4 per month. She said that the school is rife with cliquey in-fighting, and teachers who attempt to derail new teachers they view as "competition." |

"top SKY schools" Must be Korea U., because the foreign teachers at Ewha and Yonsei are not part of the hiring process. Plus, of all the 'SKY' schools, Korea pays the least for the most hours. In general, Korea U. is a stepping stone to good university positions. Pay your dues there and move along. |
