I'm in the market to buy a digital video camera. I'm really psyched about it but all the same, don't want to spend much on this one since it will be mostly for practice and I'll get a better one later after I've learned the basics.

I'm taking a film editing class this spring semester and have already been doing some short clips w/my digital camera Laughing

who owns a video camera? what brand? what do people recommend? I sent a friend a Flip for a present last year but I don't think they're available here - has anyone seen them? I'd like to keep the price down under 300,000 won. what can I get for that? what about memory, batteries, etc?

thanks!! Wink

Camera equipment is going to start getting more expensive coming this new year. A lot of the major brands will be raising their prices a bit.

I would recommend buying used. Don't feel pressured in going HD if you don't plan to be viewing your stuff on HD. A good SD looks great on the web. Plus editing HD video takes a ton of hard drive space.

no, I won't buy used, no way. maybe if I spoke the language here and could understand all that was said about it but since I don't, it will have to be new.

why do you think prices are going up?

Stuff made in Japan is the problem. The Japanese Yen exchange rate difference is just massive now. It has to be killing companies like Sony trying to sell stuff overseas.

Make a post in the buy/sell forum here. I'm sure there is a poster here that does not use their video cam.

For 300 bucks I'm not sure what you can get.

Are there any specific features that your looking for?

The HV 30 is a popular choice among amateurs.

Check out canon and sony's line up for consumer camcorders. They tend to offer the most bang for the buck feature wise. (Panasonic is worth checking out too, although I think they compete better at prosumer level with camcorders.)

if your spending around 300k your not gonna get much.

most likely it wont be an HD recorder. Probably an old style one that used standard DV tape.

for new cameras i can suggest a few, but your price range is really limiting what you can get.

check out camcorderinfo.com for details about cameras....

best rbands, canon, sony and panasonic
