Hey,

My hagwon contract ends ends in april, and they want to extend and give me a pay rise. I want to sign a short term contract because i intend to teach public school from august. So im thinking i should sign until the end of the july session. As i understand it, public school semester starts end of August. So, would I have to do any training before that, and have to start the job beginning of August? should i shoot for end of july in my current job?

Thanks

I did exactly what you are planning on. I signed a 2 month contract that expired at the end of July, went home for vacation, and came back on the public school's dime in time for orientation.

The second semester of the school year will start some time around the end of August. It varies from school to school, district to district, city to city and province to province or any combination thereof. It depends on what the principal of each school decides.

The vast majority of PS contracts will require you to start September 1 after an unpaid orientation period - which also varies depending where you apply to work and who you apply to.

I hope this clears up any confusion. Wink
