I was really frustrated and in need of a break when I left, but now I've been home for 9 months and I really miss Korea! I think I mainly miss my lifestyle-being able to walk everywhere, the opportunity to learn the language, the opportunity and the means to travel, coming across something new and interesting every day. I really miss my kids, too. I taught kindergarten and as frustrating and exhausting as it could be, I really did enjoy it. Of course it doesn't help that the economy here is sh!t and I can't see myself getting ahead or being able to go to grad school any time soon. I didn't post this because I expect any outpourings of sympathy. Just thought maybe other people have had the same experience...my friends here can offer sympathy but they don't truly understand what I mean. |

Absolutely, wife and I missed a lot of things about Korea for 8 years before we decided to come back. The grass is always greener on the other side, but eventually - we all have to go back. (well not everyone, some people have made the decision to live here their whole lives) |

Yup, this post is quite common by those who leave Korea vowing never to return or saying they're sick of the place.
I have my days when I cannot stand this country, but like most things, it's temporary. |

it sounds like you miss the exotic life of travel. You should try Japan. It is like heaven here! The kids are so funny and cute, I teach kindergarten too and the kids are shy compared to the loud screaming kids in korea, and the mothers always invite me out, and give me so much respect. I guess that is the word that makes Japan so great, respect. No cars honking, no old men trying to chase me, no spitting, no pushing, no stupid questions, no trying to promote itself or fish for compliments, just pure respect. Learning Japanese is fun, I love their culture, their crafts, and the food is AWESOME! It is safe, and I miss NOTHING about korea, give it a try, it might be what you are looking for |

Ahhh, I needed a good laugh and that is exactly what you just gave me with that post.
Just curious, have you met any Japanese people since you have been there? They are very similar to Koreans in their baseball pride and their women.
But hey, whatever makes you feel better about living in a place 10x more expensive than most places on earth. Guess that is why you stay inside and surf dave's esl Korea forums... |

She surfs Dave's because as you can tell by her personality, she's been unable to make any friends in Japan. |

You say you miss nothing about Korea yet continue to keep posting here. You definitely need to get a life. |

I remembered last year I read a post here, comparing Korea to a bad ex-gf...
It seems OP is still suffering from the break up, while Alyssa has got over her ex already. |

I miss Korea, too. I loved my life in Seoul. I guess that, because I generally kept to my own company apart from a few trusted friends, i didn't experience many of the frustrations you read about on this board. Not that these things don't happen, I just 'body swerved' them.
So I miss Seoul, and often think about it 6 months after leaving. I'm happy here in China, but I left Seoul only because of the extreme hassle involved in getting a CRC from the UK. |

1. I have many new friends in Japan...............I am married, did you know that? Just tonight we had a tako yaki party with about 14 friends, learned how to make it, bought the little machine, the flour, the squid and the other ingrediants on my way home. I am learning Japanese and I LOVE IT!
Any ways, why do I post on daves esl cafe...............I think out of pure joy. Do you know the feeling of having gotten out of something you hated, and then looking at your new life, and then going back to look at it again. It is like leaving middle school, and going to High school, and then you go back and laugh at those students who went through the same thing you did. It is fun! Plus, I have so much free time, and a nice quiet apartment, so I surf, and come back to daves, and laughed, and was glad I did not get hepat. A, and glad I am not pushed, and glad I have a great new life, and glad I can come back and watch the zoo again, fun, fun, FUN............... |

I guess when you say you have so much free time is that you HAVE NO LIFE.
Please get one and get ON with your life. |
